PLAYS ANYTHING & EVERYTHING PERFECTLY!
Extremely TIRED of Amazon's ambiguous, vague, and misleading postings poorly identifying DVDs for sale from certain regions that won't play on American DVD players, we bought this excellent Philips multi-region DVD player that ideally lives up to its claim that it plays DVDs FROM any region IN any region in the world! And it don't like, neither, we're more than pleased and happy to report! A great traditional American brand and former maker of much missed Magnavox products, we heartily endorse and support this wonderful DVD player, cheap at the price! Our only gripe is the pretty teeny-tiny remote control with its teeny-tiny buttons! Other than that, BRAVO Philips!

Great Little Multi Region D.V.D. Player.
Bought some box sets, but unfortunately they were a different region. My player wouldn't play them. Was skeptical buying a Multi Region dv.d. Player. Went through a lot of reviews till I came across this one. Received it, It came with everything you need to hook it up, including R.C.A jacks, HDMI Cable even had batteries for the remote. Hooked it up with the HDMI cable, and hoped for the best. Put my d.v.d into the unit, and it worked perfectly. The instructions are a little vague but I have had plenty of experience with electronics. Thank You Amazon. Totally happy with my purchase. Buying a blu-ray player next. And yes will definitely be purchasing it from Amazon.

Stopped working after seven months
This was an OK DVD player until it wasn't. Bought it late February of this year, and by October 2, it stopped working. Couldn't turn it on. Couldn't open the drawer to put in a CD. Put new batteries in remote. Checked the plug. Nothing helped. We did not use it very often, maybe no more than 20 times. I'd like to talk about a refund. Who do I ask?

It worked fine on my region 2 dvd's
I initially ordered this product. When it arrived I read the instruction book and it applied only to region 1 DVD. I sent it back. Then I read more reviews which stated that these players were altered to play all regions. I re-ordered the player. It worked fine on my region 2 dvd's. The first DVD player I received would probably have worked also. This DVD player is not HD, but the picture is very good. It Works very well and I'm so pleased to be able to play my region 2 DVD's. Very easy to hook up and play.

This was a great, easy to use player
This was a great, easy to use player, that worked perfectly for about 4.5 months and just suddenly sopped working completely. Fortunately, the vendor Bombay Electronics consented to replace it immediately. Hopefully the next one will perform as well and work at least a year or two.

Labeled Region 3, but plays 1 and 2 for sure
It has successfully played Region 1 and Region 2 disks for me. Yes, the manual states it is Region 3 only, but that is obviously incorrect for this modified version. So don't freak and send it back when you see that - plug it in and try it first. And yes, it is built with a European plug but does come with the adapter for US current. The adapter's assembly seemed fine, not loose or shoddy, but light plastic so don't step on it. The power cord is a measly three feet long. A quiet machine when running. The quality of the picture is average and I agree with others this is a basic entry-level player; no frills. For what will be a lightly used Region 2 player it gets that job done just fine. Haven't had any Region 1s that won't play, like a few others reported, but I'll update my review if that happens. I typically consider a 3-star item not good enough to buy, but don't let my medium score dissuade you if want a basic, affordable Region 2 player. With care I expect it will have a lifespan appropriate for its cost - an acceptable value.

Worth every penny and more, with just one small caveat
I have a Sony DVD player that handles all of my Region 1 flicks and TV series, and previously had a Panasonic All Region player that worked perfectly ... that is, until it gave up the ghost after about 4 or 5 years. Panasonic, alas, no longer sells that model, so I had to look elsewhere. This Philips does the job, although it plays some recent UK and Continental TV series in an abbreviated view, rather than full screen. (I solve that by playing such on on off-brand British machine.) If I have one small complaint ... and it is a small one, considering the enormous advantages and the very very modest cost ... is that there is no >>FF (Fast Forward) button on player or remote. You can do jumps from one scene to either the next or the previous, but once in that scene you need a certain level of Zen acceptance to sit through many minutes of material to get to the part you're looking for. Ah, well, as the Zen Master has it: "Life sucks, then you die!" rh

Excellent, compact and plays NTSC and PAL DVDs as advertised!
This is a nice little DVD player. It does all that is promised in the description. How nice to see all of my PAL DVDs again! My taste in movies is a bit eclectic, and I find being limited to only NTSC formatted films a bit confining. I had an earlier version of this Philips DVD player and it lasted me nearly 8 years. I was so happy to find this newer, lightweight and compact version. I can fit my cable box, my VCR and the DVD player on one shelf. The remote control could be better (be sure to check your manual for how to see the timer--there is no visible timer window on the front of the unit), but overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. For fellow Japanese rock fans, this unit will play the PAL format DVDs that come with the CDs!
