Solgar Folate 1000 mcg, 120 Tablets - 1000 mcg Bio-active Metafolin - Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Kosher - 120 Servings

Needed to supplement folate per doctors orders for my twins. Used this one. They came out fine :)

A friend told me how she'd been prescribed Deplin, a medical food, to take along with her long-prescribed anti-depressant, and how mellow and anxiety-free she was feeling after a couple of weeks. My curiosity piqued, I looked it up and found that it's "just" methylated folate. I read up on the supplement, user reviews on various forums, and learned I could replicate a standard 15 mg. rx over the counter. Amazon comes again to my aid! I ordered this product because it is the exact type of methylfolate used in prescription Deplin. I started with a 7.5 mg. dose (7.5 tablets) because I'd read that some people experience nausea or headaches when first starting, and the way to avoid that is to start at a smaller dose and also take 50 mg. flush-type niacin and some B12 with it (I don't recall the amount of B12 suggested, but I take a 1000 mcg. sublingual). No nausea, no headache. After a week I went to 15 mg. (15 tablets) along with the niacin and B12. It kicked in and I noticed feeling, well, like my friend said, mellow. Emotionally supported from within, in a soft, pleasant way. A total drop in feeling irritated by things, not getting caught up in worry, just feeling relaxed. I found my blood pressure readings significantly lowered, like down to 98/55! I'd checked it when I felt like I was too relaxed. So I reduced my bp medication (which was fine with my doc) and I feel really good every day. Lastly, I just learned I can get a 15 mg. x 30 rx filled at Costco for $38, as opposed to paying $65 a month for four bottles of this Solgar product, so I'll probably see my doc and go that route. But this product allowed me to try methylfolate without the cost of a dr.'s visit for what was essentially a whim. *******UPDATE July 7, 2016******* Change of mind about going the rx route; will instead switch to Methyl-Life 15 mg. chewables, sold on this site. Currently $79 for a 90 day supply, which is a whole lot cheaper than Solgar, especially since they raised the price by $5 since my recent repurchase. Also cheaper than a $38 rx.

Needed a more therapeutic dose, so wound up taking 6 or 7 daily at different times to "sort of" mimic more closely the dosage of Deplin. Went through the bottle pretty quick. I didn't find anything with at least 5 to 10 mg of metafolin I could take daily by Solgar. Once I finished this bottle I found several other labs that offer the 5, 10 and even 15 mg dosage of metafolin. At the more therapeutic dosage I found my mental status improving back to baseline, so obviously metafolin works well at a therapeutic dosage. I paid extra for two-day shipping and got it exactly as promised.

I am anemic so I take iron, B-12, & folate. So far it is working well for me. Great price.

My folate level was extremely low so my doctor told me to get a supplement for this. I’ve been using this brand for some time. When I went back in for bloodwork, my folate level was perfect. I’ll only buy this.
