Hougen HMD900 Magnetic Drill - 115V

Just like the "info video" says, I occasionally have to drill holes in the 11/16" - 13/16" range in mild (A36) structural steel plate and shapes up to 1/2" thick and for that, this machine is a godsend - it's not cheap but neither is my labor and this thing saves hours on end. And of course you can easily spend 2X's the price but unless you're a daily user I don't know why you would - this thing is fairly robust. I've had the machine for a few weeks and drilled about 40 holes with it for base plates and similar and including layout time and cutting the plates it took me maybe 3 or 4 hours. If your needs are similar then I would say "Buy with confidence".

Great drill, and the fact that it has a safety switch IF the magnetic base comes loose, is all you need to make the choice to buy this over cheaper models. Magnet is big-time strong so it has never come loose in over 50 holes on a recent project but good to know that it won't ruin your life if it goes rogue! This is a quality tool. Matched with 1" drill set and this hobby-machine guy no longer hates drilling holes! The safety and quality of good holes is SO worth it. Can't believe it took me so long to realize how much time a mag-drill saves AND how you have so many options for metal projects. No place to attach? Clamp on a flat plate or big angle iron and you are good to go. I even prefer this over drill press because the annular drills are so much faster and better. I just clamp a flat plat in the vice.

Mag is strong on thick steel. Thinner gage isn’t a great idea to try and stick to but the safety works as it should and shuts down. Not sure if it’s the drill or the bits I was using but the hole don’t line up with the bit when no load is applied. It’s less than a 16th of an inch and not an issue. That’s the reason for only 4 stars. If I get a chance to check run out then I will update. FYI the bits were off brand from amazon.

Very happy with this purchase have used for about a year now and can’t beat the quality. I have put it through its paces and it hasn’t missed a step. I even accidentally knocked it off my bench one time bent one handle but that’s it still works awesome highly recommended.

Works great! Make sure you use cutting oil with the bits. Those bits are expensive.

This is a great magnetic drill. Cost is pricey but you get a good US made product. I like it because I can use annular drill bits which for larger holes drill a clean accurate hole with little effort.

This is a great product, saves so much time !! Well worth the price
