Great find!
This is the one you are looking for! It can be an epic quest attempting to find an led upgrade for your old incandescent maglite that meets two important criteria: 1) drastically brighter, to help validate the flashlights size and 2) doesn’t cost a fortune! Seriously there are led upgrades here on Amazon for maglites that cost $70-$130! That’s double the price of buying a new led maglite! This bulb matches both of those criteria perfectly. I’ve included to photos that show this thing off, in both this 4.5 watt bulb is the beam on the left. In one photo I’ve compared it to a generic 3 watt led bulb I got from an auction site, in the other photo I’ve got it next to my old incandescent maglite, which will be getting upgraded to this bulb soon based on its performance. Pros: Bright pure white light, not bluish like some others, and not yellowish like my generic led upgrade. Extremely bright, I’ve no way to test if it’s really 630 lumens as stated, but I can say it litterally DROWNS out my 3 watt generic led bulb thing is rated at 300 lumens. Budget friendly price Cons: believe it or not, I don’t really have any except that battery life on this based on draw isn’t much better than incandescent. Expect about 6 hours off a set of 3 d cell batteries, but if you have a 4-6 cell maglite battery life will go up probably a couple hours each additional cell. All in all this is a great upgrade to bring and old friend back into service. Recommended! Ninja Edit: this bulb will not work in 2 cell maglites! Only 3-6 cell mags. I tried it in a 2 d cell maglite and it barely came on at all, even with fresh cells.

It Works
I ordered one of these for my 2 "D" Call Maglite. It installed in less than a minute - and it was significantly brighter than the original "Krypton" bulb. While I can't speak to battery life - I fully expect the battery life will more than double. A very worthwhile upgrade. Only negative is that I compared the upgraded Maglite to a new LED Flashlight that I just bought from a Major Big Box Retailer - that was designed from the ground up as an LED flashlight. This new flashlight was was a bit cheaper than this upgrade, and the new "designed from scratch with an LED Bulb" flashlight was brighter (but not focusable). But - I was kind of expecting that was going to be the case I will say that I think the LED conversion bulbs work "better" on the 3 Cell and up lights than they do on the 2 Cell lights. I believe that has to do with the LED driver circuitry. If you look at the new LED Maglights - the 3 cell (and higher) models seem to have higher output (more lumens) AND significantly better battery lie than the 2 cell models. Let's just say that I ordered a few more of these LED conversion bulbs for a few other Maglites I have laying around.

Gives Maglite a new life
Given: you have a 2D cell Maglite that is using an old incandescent bulb and you would like to keep the flashlight but it's lumens are pretty lame. This is clearly a step up. Much, much brighter. It has a middle dark spot if you adjust the flashlight to wide mode, but the narrow beam is solid. I have not found anything better. I'll still grab the Maglite.

Works as described, easy to install, Very Happy!
I was a little reluctant to purchase this 'upgrade' for my ancient Maglite 2 D cell flashlight. This Maglite has been in regular use for decades and always delivered, but with this update, I expect many more years of use and it is so much brighter than the original incandescent bulb. The focus feature of the Maglite is intact and no modifications are required, literally a drop-in bulb replacement. Haven't had this long enough to comment on battery life, but I expect it will be better.

WOW is this a bright 2 C cell LED Maglight flashlight now - easy upgrade install, super fast ship
Seems like 5 to 10 times brighter. Easy 1,000 foot beam. Super fast ship, ordered evening August 10, 2019, arrived August 16, from Ireland, so a 5 day ship, WOW. I hemmed and hawed for almost 2 months before going for the LED upgrade. Should have done sooner. I had two old perfectly fine 2 C cell Maglight flashlights and when I saw these upgrade LED 'bulbs' thought OK maybe, maybe not. Somewhat pricey but moving forward on the tech curve turned out to be well worth it. BE SURE to buy the GLASS replacement lens as well, as these let much more light through than the original plastic lens. KEEP the plastic lens in case you break the glass lens. I am going to figure out some sort of plastic lens cap cover to protect the front of the flashlight. Maybe some plastic lid off some container.

Packaging bulbs
It was bent and in a padded envelope when it arrived. Should be packaged in a small box . It does work but husband used lliers to straighten it.

I bought this LED bulb for my three cell Maglite. Would consider another if I had a need.
It is a very easy upgrade and converting an existing flashlight is cheaper than buying a new LED one. It did improve the light quality though I do wish the light produced was a cleaner white versus a yellowish tint. All things considered I do not regret the purchase as the light quality is an improvement.

Very bright and well formed circle. Maglite focus concentrates the beam.
This Cree bulb is mounted in a MagLite threaded cap. I believe the purpose is two-fold -- to center the bulb and to raise the LED so that it is spread (diffused) by the built-in reflector onto the MagLite reflector. This is at least twice as bright as the other LED I tried first. Also, there are a few MagLites with different threads that are not compatible. I had one of these and the seller immediately knew what the problem was and sent me a bulb with that thread for no charge. Now I am very happy to have both my MagLites sporting this superior Cree bulb. I have added photos of the Cree bulb installed and illuminated and the near perfect beam spot on an interior wall in daytime. It is a great product to revitalize your MagLite.

My Maglite is probably nearly 30 years old. Quite sometime ago I replace the original bulb with an LED bulb but it wasn’t that bright. This is much much brighter and is almost as bright as a brand new 700+ lumen maglite I bought. Great value and easy to fit. Has given an old torch a new lease of life.

FDC, 12.01.2017

Brilliant - in both senses of the word. I have two old 2D Maglites that I am quite attached to. Apart from when they had brand new batteries in they were not of much use for more than finding the path in front of me. Thinking that I really need something better I bought Maglite's latest 3D led offering the ML300L , which was really nice; however, once I had bought it I noticed "people who looked at this item also looked at ..." these Maglite upgrades. For the price it seemed worth a go and got one. I was amazed how much it brought one of the old Maglites to life, even with semi-flat batteries. I was so pleased, I upgraded the second one too. If I had know about these upgrades sooner might not have bought the ML300L, despite its extra power. Photos attached. Before & after upgrade. Also both Maglites side by side with equally flat batteries. Note, my point & shoot camera automatically stops down to handle the bright light, so I would say the improvement is even better than it appears in the photos.

Excellent little product. My ~15 year old 2x D cell maglite (xenon bulb) stopped working. I assumed blown bulb but couldn't see a broken filament. I was truly shocked how expensive genuine maglights are so gambled on this part fixing the problem and extending the life of the torch. RESULT! It took 30 seconds to fit. The torch works, is far brighter than before and I assume will have better battery life. Mission accomplished.
