Great Western Trail

Super fun strategy game. Best for 3 or 4 players. Box suggests 12+, but its probably better for more experienced gamers. Variety of paths for winning. Takes a couple hours for 2 players. Add an extra 30-45 min per additional player. Acceptable box organization. Higher than average learning curve, but lots of replay value to explore other strategies. Quality construction and great design.

GWT has a lot to grasp at first. However, for gamers seeking a bit more depth out of their table sessions this is an excellent mix of tile and card type play styles, and lots of ways to reckon with what the board offers. Despite the western theme it's a Euro game, with semi-independent play and each player needing to keep an eye on what others are doing to choose early on a strategy to finally claim victory at the end. There are a number of equally valid paths to victory and the rounds are lively enough once players know the rules. It has a slightly daunting set up and take down because of all the bits but that's a good thing for a fun game, which it is.

Very fun game and not hard to play. Plus it defies analysis that can make a game uninteresting after a while. After many play-throughs, we still couldn't figure out how to win for sure. Which made it fun to play again!

I don't see any issues with quality for this game as other reviews mentioned. I went with Sleeve Kings 56 X 87 mm sleeves and they fit perfect. For the game itself it's been fun, I've played 4 times and each was about 1-1.5 hours. Mechanics include: Placing buildings to create additional actions, hiring workers to improve your buying power, Player and Train movement, deck building, multiple paths to bonus victory points. Actions are tied to buildings and player movement, the building type and location can be randomized to make it more replayable. Although there is a lot to learn upfront, none of the mechanics are overly complicated and there is good synergy between them.

We enjoy this game. It’s well designed and the illustrations are beautiful. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it’s long, and there are a lot of components to it. I think it took over 3 hours the first time we played it because we had to reference the rules often as we were trying to learn what all the symbols meant. It’s gotten faster with each play, but is still a long game overall. We enjoy long games that require some thought, but this one was almost too much. It’s a good game, just takes a while to learn.

Es uno de mis juegos de mesa favoritos, tiene muchas dinámicas, ninguna partida es igual a la anterior, excelente juego. Sería mejor poder conseguir la cerraron en español, ya que tiene muchas reglas, sin embargo una vez se comprende la dinámica se juega sin problemas

Je teouve ce jeux parfait. Le prix, le contenu.. franchement, ce jeux est addictif et simple à jouer...le mode solo est un peu trop à l'avantage de l'automa mais avec de l'experience on peut battre "sam"... Bravo pour l'editeur

A huge improvement on the original in turns of production values. The board has new artwork and the game now has a solo mode. Good stuff.
