Zur Prüfungsliteratur meines Psychologiestudiums gehörten nur wenige amerikanische Lehrbücher - und nachdem ich A First Look at Communication Theory lesen durfte, habe ich dies bedauert. Mit vorbildlicher Anschaulichkeit gibt das Buch einen Überblick über die (damals) gängigen Kommunikationstheorien. Leider kann ich nicht mit Bestimmtheit sagen, wie gut die aktualisierten Fassungen neue Theorien eingebunden haben, da ich nur eine frühe Auflage gelesen habe. Allerdings deuten die aktuelleren Kritiken auf amazon.com darauf hin, dass auch die Neuauflagen lesenswert sind. Mein Fazit: Von Griffin können eher kopflastige (um nicht zu sagen deutsche) Autoren lernen, wie sich komplexe Konzepte angemessen und leicht verständlich, geradezu unterhaltsam vermitteln lassen.

As a student in communication studies, this textbook is one of the most helpful references I own. Griffin, Ledbetter, and Sparks do a great job of explaining unfamiliar content. This is one textbook I will certainly hang on to.

This book is laid out very well and makes it actually interesting to read. I had this version and the updated version which is pretty similar, just with a few theories added and taken out. The theories while many of them, are broken down well and easy to understand which helps to apply them for assignments. I would highly recommend this book for Comm Theory classes.

I wasn’t expecting the textbook to be loose leaf. At the price of the book, being loose, depreciates it’s value fast because while using it, it was coming apart in my binder. So that’s my dislike; otherwise, it’s a good book.
