This type of handle is a privacy handle where the lock works as basically a crude kind of obstruction to the handle. It's not a secure locking mechanism, but that's fine, it's a lot easier to install than a genuine bathroom lock since it requires a just a single tubular mortice latch (which are easy to get hold of for a couple of pounds), rather than a larger bathroom mortice lock. This is what I was looking for, to replace a very similar privacy handle which had broken. Unless you're replacing a similar privacy handle, the locking mechanism will need a second additional hole to be drilled through the door 4cm below the handle spindle, since the lock also has its own narrower spindle that goes right through the door. The handles on mine both had a bit of friction in the mechanism when they arrived, I put a bit of oil on the mechanism of each before installing them and they're much smoother. The spindle for the lock is too long and will need cutting down to the size of your door - it's steel so not the easiest, but 3 or 4 minutes with a hacksaw should do it. I wish the handles came with philips head screws and not flat head as they much easier to screw in, especially when you're creating new holes in the door. Based on the very similar handle it replaced, I imagine the handle will go a bit wobbly before too long as the mechanism is quite rudimentary, but no complaints at this price really, I would buy it again.

The chrome finish on this handle was very poor top left-hand corner there was no chrome on the handle at all hence I’ve not fitted it

Just what I needed

Looks nice but so harsh to touch and has an awkward build. The handle could have been better polished for a smoother grip when opening. It's really stiff and your fingers hit the lock when opening. Lock bar is long, so had to saw it and now cannot return. The bar also didn't align with the handle straight so one of the handles had to be installed slanted so 8 could make it work. The screws are weak and broke while screwing and one of them came with a flat head(?)... Terrible product and I don't recommend, buy it at your own risk.

Simple cheap solution to a problem I had. The only downside is that the lock connector rod was too long and had to be grinded down to length which is not a problem if you have the tools, but I didn’t. Otherwise having that issue fixed works like a charm.
