I love these puzzles. The first batch of three was amazing. The new batch is great, but not as good as the first batch. That said, they are still among the best puzzles on the market. DIFFICULTY: Excellent! Some pieces that appear to be outside edge pieces aren't, which ups the difficulty, I love it. DUST: The first batch of three advertised that they were getting rid of puzzle dust. They did that successfully, the puzzles were amazing. The new batch of three has some puzzle dust, but not near as bad as other puzzle brands. I am disappointed it isn't as dust free as the first edition, but that is okay. FIT: The first batch of three fit together amazingly. The pieces fit together with a clean snap, didn't fall out, but were easy to remove. The die used to cut the new batch of three is uneven. In some places it is tight, in other places it is loose. Overall, when the puzzle is complete the lines between the pieces are clearly visible -- much more than on the first puzzle. The pieces fit together nicely, but no longer have that satisfying snap into place. Also, some pieces now have a larger gap between them. It's a step backward, but more in keeping with other puzzle brands. ART: I love the art on these! The first three had a great feature that every single piece had something going on that was interesting. The new batch isn't quite as energetic in that regard, but it still has activity in most places. I am disappointed that there are now some blank pieces, but rarely is there a large blank canvas where you are trying to solve it by shape rather than image. The story the puzzles tell, the way that story changes, and the characters are just absolute fun. My kids literally lose hours studying the maps and the puzzles and declaring what characters they want to be and telling stories about them. Well done to the artists. SECRET: I love the idea of the secret. It works great. Each puzzles pieces have different shapes throughout, so the die is obviously changed. Except, the die for the secret is always the same. Once you figure that out, the puzzles are easier to do, which is disappointing. I wish that they would change up the shape of the secret, because it would make the puzzles more dynamic. I understand the added cost that would cause, but it really would elevate each puzzle to being consistently something special, rather than, "Oh, it's the same overall outline." I do love how the secret changes the puzzle at the end of the day and tells you more of the story, but please change the basic die cut for it so that we get a bit of variety! OVERALL: 5 out of 5. Would buy again, would gift these. My family loves them. They are some of the best puzzles we have ever done for many reasons, ranging from the imagery to the build to the little quality indicators like using paper bags to hold the pieces inside the box instead of plastic. Well done to the creators! I would consider reducing the rating on the puzzles overall by 1 star, for the minor manufacturing quibbles above, but none of those destroy the enjoyment of these puzzles.
