Awful! Awful taste. Awful texture. Awful aftertaste. My son called it the equivalent of dog food for humans. I had one bite and threw the package away it was so bad. I will never buy this again.

I liked this product so much so that I have a subscription for it. Here is the thing...it used to taste soft...easy to come apart and flavory. What I am receiving now is not the same. I ordered 4 packages and all 4 packages consisted of a product that was sub par to what i was receiving when I first started purchasing this product. Usually I would get a package like this previously and say...ok, i got a bad batch...the other packages will be better. So what I receive now is a product that you can chew and chew and its very hard to swallow....so much so that you can lose a tooth if you are not careful. The product no longer has that same texture where it is easy to tear a piece off. Not the same texture and not the same flavory taste. Its as if im buying a product that is past its expiration date. I do not know if I will keep my subscription. Hope you guys have better luck.

This is a case where I really wish the "regular" had been available to try out so that I could have more objectively reviewed this "mushroom jerky" as a concept because I honestly can't tell if the flavoring is helping or hurting. Like others who have posted reviews of this product, I love mushrooms. Mushrooms on a cheesesteak. Triple mushrooms on a pizza. A salad bowl topped with a thick layer of mushrooms. Or, just some button mushrooms dipped in salad dressing. So many things are made better with mushrooms. That's why I was so excited when I first learned about Pan's Mushroom Jerky ... and disappointed that I have to give it a "meh" level review. That's why I wish I'd waited until the regular variety was in-stock again ... because, despite also loving Asian cuisine, I wasn't a fan of this Zesty Thai Mushroom Jerky. Leaving me uncertain whether it was the flavoring, the jerky itself, or both. It's just the larger, thicker pieces where there's a distinct difference between the exterior flavoring and the internal mushroom flavor that leads me to think I may have given then at least another star without the flavoring. That's also why I'm thinking that, if I were presented the unflavored product as "freeze dried mushroom snacks", I also would have viewed this product more favorably. It's like all of those videos declaring how to make a $1 steak taste like Waygu. That's setting a very high and unrealistic level of expectation. This isn't jerky. I've had plant-based jerky that actually was formed in strips like beef jerky that had a much closer look and texture to an animal jerky. And, with all of the flavoring, there isn't that natural shitake mushroom flavor to enjoy either. I love batter-dipped button mushrooms and how, after the crispness of the fried exterior, you get that juicy burst of mushroom flavor on the inside. And, that's what I had been hoping for and missing here. It misses the mark on both the "jerky" and the "mushroom" fronts ... leaving it unclear how to really view the overall product as anything but a overspicy, chewy mass ... whose aftertaste again makes me wonder if the regular variety would have been more to my liking. "Freeze dried mushrooms" just seems to me to have been a better advertising angle to me. Mushrooms that have been marinated, sautéed, and deep-fried is exactly the type of thing I would have loved. And, if I'd found this product presented in that manner, I think my expectations would have been better managed and kept closer to the reality since I wouldn't have had anything like that before and therefore wouldn't have had so much to compare it against.
