Buyer beware: TV must be compatible.
I copy-and-pasted this comment from Sony STRDH590 customer review but it's relevant to this device. I had to return mine because of this issue. "Buyer beware: TV must be compatible. I bought this A/V receiver a couple of weeks ago to replace my aging Sony A/V receiver and hooked it up via HDMI to my equally aging 46" TV -- only to be presented with a demand that the HDMI connection be HDCP 2.2 compliant. I called customer service and they were unable to offer a workaround, so I ended up buying a new TV. Now that I have, it works flawlessly and the sound is great. I love my new 4K arrangement. Setup was very easy and overall I'm very happy with the end result. My wife suspects that they whole scenario unfolded according to my own nefarious plan, but really it didn't and she likes the improved viewing too. HDCP 2.2 is the latest 4K copyright protocol, so is only found on newer TVs. Really, Sony should put an advisory to that effect in the product description. Other than that, though, a great A/V receiver for a budget conscious A/V enthusiast."

easy to use and has everything, my denon was more difficult !
this onkyo is a totally awesome 5.2, you don't need 2 subs but their there just like it has it all and it really rocks ! It reminds me of my 1st stereo I ever bought with my graduation $ I mean its that cool, simple to operate, no difficult functions. I would buy another for the price, although Ive yet to check todays price but Im going to now just to see what it sells for because Im curious if you can still get 1 cause I would get another, like for sure but I think their phasing the tx sr373 out cause I got a awesome price but I hope not, it totally jams clean with just 2 Klipsch bookshelves, cerwin center ! I live in a apt. so I don't even use 2 more cerwin bookshelves, I cant in the apt. Get this onkyo under 200.00 it was, the best deal out there. I would write more but Im going to see if its still available, it would be way cool to have another, its that cool for the price and so simple with just 1 volume knob it looks as good as it rocks !

A good budget AV receiver
I purchased this to replace an old (11 years) Onkyo stereo receiver that had been forced into duty as an AV receiver. It is a nice upgrade. It works well as an HDMI switch, which allows a single cable feed to our wall mounted TV. Sound quality is the same as my old stereo receiver, which was very good. Also, the auto speaker setup worked very well. Plug in the supplied mic, run the auto setup procedure and you are done. I spent some time fiddling with manual setup but could not improve much on the auto settings which take about 5 minutes. A couple of minor issues: first, there is no phono preamp. If you have an older or higher end turntable you will have to buy an external phono preamp to make it work. Second, only the main speakers have banana plug terminals, the rest are cheap spring clips. This is not a deal breaker for me because right now I have a single pair of Wharfedale EVO 30 speakers. However, if you are planning a 5.1 system this is a consideration. Still, it is hard to argue with a sub-200 dollar unit that performs its basic functions well.

Failed after 28 days but Amazon exceeded themselves.
Unit will not connect to my cable box after 28 days. While it worked it was great. However, if it fails after 28 days it is unsatisfactory. I called Amazon to return the unit but could not because I no longer had the packing materials or box. I went round and round over the phone without resolving the issue. I was totally disappointed with the service received. However, the next morning I got a fabulous email from Amazon customer service with a very equitable solution. The product still stinks but Amazon service is SUPERB! Just as an add on: I brought this piece of junk to the “authorized” Onkyo service in Pompano Beach (what a sea of incompetence they are). They held on to the piece of junk for 3 weeks. They didn’t call me, so I called them. Yeah, the unit was repaired the previous night. We were going to call you - yeh, right. Brought it home and hooked it up. Four days later, yeh four days later, the same thing. No signal on the cable port. Switched the input to the game port, seems to be working. As long as it works this way, I will keep the unit. If it fails again, into the trash. Caveat emptor. Too bad I can’t give negative stars.

Love it, but still waiting for it to come out of service
Excellent 5.2 sound. Big improvement over my older 5.1 system 1 - Couldn't hook up my turntable. Had to purchase a preamp ($25 to $50) 2 - Called into Cust. Service needing assistance on the USB read out. No one could answer my questions 3 - Would not turn on one evening (after 4 months). 4 - No return, had to package and ship off to a service provider ($32). USPS rode it around for 2 weeks and returned back to me. Had to ship it again. 5 - Service rec'd. Ordered parts and told me it is still not working. Been without our AV Receiver for over 6 wks now.

Great value tuner
Bought this to replace my Sony 885 that the right speaker channel died. This was easy to set up. Has HDMI switching and sounds great. And it was HALF the price of my Sony that I bought 10 years ago. The bluetooth feature is great. I can sit and control my music from my phone. I also loaded a large music library on a 64gb jump drive to leave in the tuner. However, the interface is not very user friendly so I haven't used that feature much.
