Lee Hammond's Big Book of Drawing Review: A super-course in drawing for the pencil atist! - This is probably "the" book for the aspiring pencil artist. Lee Hammond is a wonderful artist and instructor. She has authored many books and this BIG book seems to be a compilation of the best in her other books. Drawing faces is explored in depth, with chapters specializing in every facial feature. The chapters on eyes are superb! Toward the end of the book, the subject matter focuses on colored pencils. Every chapter is great! This book comprises a super-course in drawing that will keep to budding artist engaged for months or perhaps years! Review: Owned for about 10 years and bought for my niece last year - This is my absolute favorite drawing book. Most how-to books for drawing don't seem to have enough info, or they have too much useless info. They're either loaded with drawings without much text or progression, or have way too much text and it's difficult to find what you're seeking. This book makes it really easy to find what you're looking for, and is full of useful information and resources. I have owned this since I was 14 and am now 24. I bought this for my 11y/o niece last X Mas and it's really helped her improve her skills. Like to an extent that is pretty shocking. She brought me a picture the other day and said she's been using the book and really likes it. :)

Good book
Lee Hammond's Big Book of Drawing is a good book. I found that her individual books were far more helpful to me. This Big Book is just that, a large book that covers everything. For my purposes more specific instruction as in her other books have been more helpful. I thought I would save money by buying the "all in one" version but find that I would have been happier buying a couple of her individual books. Her instructions are very good and the tone of her writing is encouraging, especially to a beginner like me. If you are looking for very general instruction this is the book for you , if however you are focusing on a specific genre, get her smaller individual books.

Excellent! Must Have!
This book is excellent! My drawing has improved dramatically because Lee Hammond REALLY teaches you how to "draw" what you "see". It actually works! It's incredible. I felt like I was in a rut and could not progress any further, but with the exercises in this book, my drawing world has re-opened and is definitely building my confidence. I feel like I can draw anything! I am SO HAPPY with this purchase. The first exercise in the book (where you draw what you see in each randomly numbered square and then turn your book upside down to see what you drew) is awesome. It is the perfect way to begin the book because after you complete it, you believe in Lee Hammond's techniques and you are truly confident and ready to "draw" what you "see"! You will NOT be disappointed!

EXCELLENT
I have written other reviews on Lee Hammond (instructional) drawing books. My 11-year-old daughter can pick up a Lee Hammond book and within an hour is drawing amazing pictures. Lee Hammond books are probably not for young beginning drawers; however, my 11-year-old has no problem following the instructions and creating gorgeous drawings. I started a binder with protective pages for my daughter to place her drawings in. If you have a serious artist or a budding artist who just needs some extra instruction, Lee Hammond books are the way to go.

Great For All Artist
I love to draw and I love anything written and drawn by this wonderful artist. Lee Hammond's books are great for beginners as well as the polished artist. Her instructions and techniques are easy to understand and follow. Although I am a great artist, I like to use her books to help me bring out the best work of art that I can create. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Highly recommed
I highly recommend this book to beginner artists as well as the experienced artist. This author makes it very easy to understand for the beginner. But for the experienced artist like myself this book has allowed me to go back to refine my techniques and take my skill level up another notch or two and I see lots of improvement in my work. I love this book.

great book for kids or adults
My 9 year old is interested in learning to draw more realistically. We have been having a great time with this book. It teaches a lot about shading techniques; I'd never used a tortillon before, but now see how useful a tool it is. Daughter has done some very nice drawings copied from the book, and it has helped her see how shading can make an object stand out from the page.

My daughter (age 10) has always loved to draw but had never learned any real techniques. She nagged me to get her this book and I am amazed at the results. It looks like she's been to art school! The instructions, examples, etc must be very easy to understand and follow because my daughter has made tremendous progress completely on her own (I can't draw very well). I highly recommend Lee Hammond's Big Book of Drawing.

The author seems genuinely concerned about teaching others how to draw. She wants us to enjoy the art of drawing so she provides us with all the information we need to do just that.
