right size for me
i'm constantly under threat of zapping myself when i get home. so, i purchased this desktop grounding mat due to insane amount of static i transfer when i get yo my dry office environment. Chose this brand for maximum 24"x47" size and inverted the mat to use black side. i really just need to protect my new pc, old pc rebuild, and lots of electronics.

Does lay flat eventually
Exactly as advertised. It comes rolled up and will have a curl to it. Lay it out, put some weights in the edges, and wait. It will lay flat after a few days.

Good product but not sure about it safety

Not very heat tolerant, and not very cheap
This ESD mat is much less tolerant of solder than any other ESD mat I've used. I have several ESD mats for various work surfaces I use for assembling and debugging PCBAs, and I have used many others at work etc. Most of them are fine if you splash/flick/drop some solder on them from a few inches away (solder tends to flatten out and then cool, and can then be swept off with no damage to the ESD mat). In contrast, this one is significantly damaged by a glob of solder. It doesn't go through to the work surface underneath, but it leaves large and deep depressions in the surface of the mat. Also I was doing some work with hot glue, and discovered that indirect hot glue is hot enough to damage this ESD mat. I don't have a good comparison point with other ESD mats, but I was surprised that hot glue conducted through several inches of copper wire was sufficiently hot to be a problem. At least this ESD mat is also cheaper than the good ones, but it's still more expensive than the cheapest ones which it has comparable quality to. I bought it based on the startech.com brand name, but apparently it's no better than the cheap ones.

Not an ESD-safe mat via resistive testing.
This product is not a functional ESD mat despite being labeled "anti-static" and claiming to prevent ESD damage. Proper ESD protection requires the mat surface to be dissipative and grounded, allowing charge to safely bleed off from both the user and components. However, this mat is not grounded through the provided snap, and the surface shows no measurable conductivity using a Klein Tools MM300 multimeter—neither by surface testing nor direct puncture. The documentation even states it's "not meant to be used with a wrist strap," which contradicts its claim of ESD protection. Without a conductive surface and a valid grounding path, this mat can create a false sense of safety and actually increase the risk of damaging sensitive electronics. At best, it's a non-conductive workspace protector—not a true ESD-safe mat.

It would not sit flat.
I wanted to like this and probably would have but it would not sit flat. The edges kept curling up from being rolled up in the packing container. I applied some heat with a hair drier and placed weights on it for several days but I could not get it to sit flat. It's a shame because other than that it seemed like it would have been a good mat.
