Norman Hall's Firefighter Exam Preparation Book

This book was super helpful in preparing for the FireTeam test. It includes all of the necessary information, with chapters relating to each section of the exam. It helps with general mechanical and logical reasoning, and has great practice tests and feedback on why a response may be preferred. Good to use in the months preceding your exam, but too dense to rush through in less than a few weeks.

Took the fire exam once (Hawaii) and passed with a 70% using other books. Nothing great. After this book, my scores shot up to mid 90's. Much harder than what you'll see on most tests, but the practice and activities that they have will definitely prepare you for whatever it is you come up against. I did put in about 2 months of studying using this book for about 30 minutes to an hour every few days. If you put in the time with this book you will see results. Would definitely recommend this book to someone looking to do well on a firefighter exam.

Great book tons of information

It was very informative but some of the test questions and study questions had the answers wrong. I'm not saying I'm an expert at all in this field. But one particular example is page 119 question 14. It was adding two decimals and then multiplying. If I recall anything in my math class it isnthat there is an order of operations. Which is something that isn't taken into account. My answer was different when I used order of operations. (Didn't even have an answer with the proper us of it) but doing it without the order I found the answer. So if you read this book with no outside knowledge prior, it's pretty great and has more information than you'll need for your test and covers a lot of bases. Overall I'm really appreciative of this book and it has taught me more than I expected.

My son used it for school. Great information

I bought this book 2 months before my test date. I applied myself every day, working through each problem and taking the practice exams seriously. I was completely new to the fire department testing process and this book helped me score in the top 250 out of 1,000 candidates. My individual score was not released, but I know with certainty that this book helped me pass the exam. I highly recommend this book to anyone about to test for any fire department.

I bought this book thinking it would help with the initial written test for the fire department. I won't say it didn't help at all however, it was WAY more than what actually appears on the test. The test is far more basic than what is contained in this book. Not that studying from this book is useless but it caused me some undue stress thinking that what I was getting from the book, especially the math section, was going to be on the test. If you can do the practice tests well from this book then you should not only make an 80 on the actual test but you'll probably make 100%. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because almost none of the information appeared on the real test and it made me think I was going to fail.

Quality book for the price

Excellent prep tool. I had minimal time to prepare for my exam and this helped me focus on the things I needed help with. I passed my exam and would recommend this book

Very helpful in preparing for testing - I bought this book to study prior to attending Texas A&M Fire Recruit Training Academy and I learned a lot! Arrived in good time as well!

Great resource...the math examples should include additional steps for the algebra operations. Recommended.

Must have study guide, this helped me out a lot prior to my first and only written exam. 100% helped me get the job.
