Smells great. High quality product.
They smell fantastic. Very soothing and not overpowering. If you want more scent just burn 2 or more with 500pc it’s a good value. I didn’t have a burner so I tossed some old marbles in a wooden bowl. You can use playground sand or whatever you have available. A high quality product from Kyoto. Burn for about 20 minutes. These are pure resin so no bamboo or wood core to get in the way. Also makes for less smoke and clean-up than common stick incense with a core.

Simply Amazing!!
Shoyeido's Moss Garden Incense is simply amaIng! I could write paragraph, after paragraph about how this scent moves me. I mean it literally moves me!! The scent is indescribable, it is so complex, yet so amazingly simple. Today a family friend walked in the house and literally followed her nose to my room, she smiled and asked "what is that scent, it smells the air after a warm summer rain". To me, Moss Garden smells like my childhood home, like a mix of wonderful sweet pastries baking, the smell of a freshly cleaned home and the breeze billowing softly through the windows on a hot summer night carrying smells of the evening. The scent makes me feel calm, peaceful, satisfied, happy and full of the love & promise. So strange, that a scent can make me feel so at peace and envoke so many feelings of happiness, warm memories, utter satisfaction, warm summer nights and the feeling of promise. This is truly my favorite scent so far by Shoyeido, however I said the same about White River and River Path, so who knows what I have in store with my next new Shoyeido incense purchase. I'm new to incense. I'm one of those people that used to get an immediate headache, from the odor of burning incense. I could never figure out why the store that I purchased the incense from smelled so good, only to get home and get nauseated with a terrible headache within a few minutes of lighting the incense I purchased from that store only earlier that day. I now, know why, they were burning high quality Japanese incense in the store, probably Shoyeido, and selling low quality, inexpensive Indian or Chinese incense. The scent of Moss Garden can't be described, however it can be felt. I believe that high quality Shoyeido incense is different for each person, envoking and awakening feelings of happiness and pleasure, feeling that your memory corrilates to a scent. These amazing incense created by Shoyeido have the key to open those feelings in you, each scent triggering something a little different in each individual but all of them being of pure pleasure and happiness. The scent is soft yet not faint, it is not overpowering but it is not gentle either. It's too difficult to put into words, my advice to you is order the 500 stick box, believe you'll end up using them all and ordering more, like I just did myself. I can guarantee the 250 stick box will not lay long in my home, I've already given some to my neighbor and my son's girlfriend. Do yourself a favor, buy yourself a box of Shoyeido's Moss Garden, sit back, close your eyes and see where the scent takes you! Enjoy!

For me, Shoyeido MOSS GARDEN is the best incense you can buy, period.
If you've burned Japanese "koh" style incense before, you know that the slender, fragile sticks contain no inner bamboo wand, like Indian joss-sticks... they're just the pure rolled incense paste itself. They are famously low-smoke, and they never, ever overpower when burned in a room. Of all the scents that koh comes in, for me, there is none better than Moss Garden, and I've used it for decades. It is a subtle, reassuring, super-soothing scent that seems to have nuances of sandalwood, rosewood, nutmeg, benzoin, patchouly, and vanilla. ie., it's a quite complex smell, not just one "note", somewhat akin to the smell of the "papiers d'Armenie" which Europeans will be familiar with. The scenting oils smell 100% natural to my nose.. no stinky, caustic synthetics here. Burned in the morning when you rise, Moss Garden puts your head in a very beautiful, serene space... ideal for Zen or other meditation sessions, or just creating an amazing, cozy "feel-good" mood in your home. Each stick in this pack burns for about 20min, and it has to be said, the box it comes in is so Japanese-classy... a superb gift. Comes with a little ceramic tile for holding a stick as it burns.

Great scent good product
This is my favorite incense. I’m really like it because there’s no stick. It’s just pure incense and it smells great.

Very Good Quality Incense for the Price Point
I purchased several different incenses by this company. I like the two I have tried thus far (the other one is sandalwood), but of the two, I think I like Moss Garden a bit more. Perhaps it is the combination of patchouli, sandalwood, and benzoin that I find so enchanting. This is indeed a woody, mossy fragrance that is quite pleasing to my nose, and I can see how it could be quite conducive to meditation. I like these joss sticks so much more than the Indian incense sticks that have a core which interferes with the fragrance of the incense as it burns. I can burn these joss sticks in any sort of incense burner including my porcelain burners because they do not get so hot that they would cause the porcelain to break. I use white ash in my incense burner/koro, but I plan to try sand, too. I am just beginning my incense journey, but I think I am off to a very good start with this brand. I would add also that the packaging is lovely. This brand just feels like quality all the way round from the lovely packaging to the smell of the incense itself. I now burn incense at least twice a day just for the olfactory pleasure of it, and once I use up my current supply of Moss Garden, I will definitely repurchase. Once it finishes burning, the fragrance does not linger for very long, but whilst it is burning, it is very agreeable. I definitely prefer the Japanese incense over others I have tried. Enthusiastically recommend this woody, earthy, non-sweet fragrance.

High quality indoor incense
This is very nice incense. It doesn’t seem potent enough for outdoor bug repellent, but it is perfect for indoor scents. Burn time seems around half an hour. Sticks are smaller than most common ones. Very clean burning. I get sandalwood up front, subtle patchouli and random bits of cloves. It is very effective for indoor use. I would get something bigger and less subtle for outdoor use though. This will be my go to living room scent. For my forest seat I will find something more aggressive.

Good
As expected all resin no stick. Smaller than a wooden stick kind but burns just as long smells good. No complaints.

movingly soft scent, comforting, intriguing
This is my first experience with Japanese incense...it won't be the last. The Moss Garden scent is hard to describe. It is very soft/subtle. I'm a little hesitant to try to be too specific because my descriptions may mean something entirely different to you. But.... It reminds me a bit of a camp fire that's burning some distance away. Like... I'm getting a whiff, but I can't really tell where it's coming from. There's some fragrant wood in that fire....maybe a piece of fir or pine. Maybe something still green...leaves or moss. Maybe a hint of something that touches on marijuana....only not. And then, you totally can't expect it, but there's a touch of the scent your first girlfriend used to wear that just made you feel ...so.....good....and then it's gone. It is an intriguing scent that makes me want to explore it further...and I intend to. Plus, it smells sooooo much better burning than it does in the box. In no way does the scent assault your sense of smell like so many of the soapy, perfume, floral incense sticks that are on the market. These sticks are shorter than your normal incense sticks and thinner too. They don't burn as long either, but they DO leave you wanting more. At about $20 these at first seem more expensive than other incense sticks. But, you get 500 sticks and that's only ~$4/100 sticks. That is not expensive and, even it IS more than you're used to spending, they are worth it. I highly recommend this incense!
