Cuts Wood like Butter
There is nothing to dislike about this hatchet, well made, keeps an edge for a long time and I found it well balanced for the work I was doing. I think I would have made the lanyard a bit longer thus allowing the "user" to adjust it to his needs. The humorous bit was It was an Italian Hatchet of German design with a handle of American Hickory!!! I want to know why in the hell we can't make this rather simple tool here in America??? PS I'll probably buy another one. One each for rough work and fine work!!!!!

Very nicely-made hatchet.
This hatchet is very nicely made. The head has a nice taper to the edge which makes it easy to put a good sharp edge onto. Since I intend to use this hatchet for the shaping of wooden bowls and the like, I will be maintaining a way sharper edge on it than one would for the usual camp hatchet use. It took a good edge quite easily. Time and use will tell how good the temper is; I'm assuming it is good. The handle of this Italian-made hatchet is U.S.-grown hickory, which is known to be the best wood for impact tools such as axes, hatchets, hammers and the like. The handle is very tightly attached. Therefore, I rate this hatchet as excellent.

Nice, but head was loose; details below
I bught this as a Christmas present for my son. He used it a few times and really liked it. I took it out and cut a 6" White Birch log that had been down roughly a year (not what it's designed for, but should be/was capable) and the handle loosened. The head performed well, edge held up, the handle grain is nice & straight, and it has nice balance. I decided to rehang it vs sending it back. I took some pictures of the individual parts & the fit/finish isn't great. The handle has router marks & the wedge/notch was a bit short & uneven. At the end of the day it's a nice pattern & performed well. I would still recommend it, just be aware it may need some work. 3 stars for loose handle and rough fit & finish. I'll update this if there's any issues after some use.

Good head, steel and handle. Needs finishing work.
Good axe head for crafting. Needed some sharpening and angle/grind setting. Toe and heel needed grinding flat. C45 steel developed a strong wire edge, but it came off with fine stones and stropping. Very good hickory handle with good grain orientation, but with some light checking cracks. Had a smooth and even varnish coat, but it scraped off fairly easily and is better looking, more durable and has better grip with finishing oil now. A cost effective underfinished hatchet that fixes up nicely.

Well made!
CAme sharp out of the box, although i touched it up. Hickory orientation was nearly dead on. Sanded off the finish and added boiled linseed oil. Unlike the pics of Prandi being painted on, this was engraved in the blade. I will add my own sheath and neck coller..Outstanding value!

Most likely best there is for the price
I dug around thoroughly through different product reviews before purchasing this hatchet. I had an idea of what I wanted, but found myself way over budget for this particular item. And then I found this. . There were a few troubling reviews, as with any item on Amazon. And was a little worried I'd get the painted on logo version of this hatchet. . I was ready to polish that thing righ off. So I was EXTREMELY pleased when it arrived with the stamped logo on the head. I'd read that some had issues with the head being loose. Which for some of us and a bucket of water can usually be a easy remedy. However my head arrived super tight, with the little wood burs still visible on the bottom side of the head. I ordered it without the sheath as I plan on designing and making my own for it. As with most of my hand tools and knives I was also prepared, and still plan on, modifying it more to my liking. Regardless of how it came it. . The only thing I didn't like much about this tool, straight out of the box. Was what seemed like a rough coat of polyurethane on the handle. That took about 3 minutes of sanding with a sheet of 120 grit to remedy. I was itching to take a whack at something with it and tried it out on this little stump I'd been meaning to do something about. . This little hatchet made quick work of that stubborn thing. I'd been putting off getting rid of it because of what a pain I thought it'd might be. . It arrived sharp enough for most for sure. I'll be polishing this edge up real nice in the near future. I'll also be staining and sealing it more to my liking. . I usually don't review items right away. I usually allow some time to thoroughly test it before giving it a star rating. And very rarely write a lengthy review. . This hatchet impressed me. I look forward to using and maintaining it for many years to come.

Quality is top notch
I hardly ever give a perfect rating ....if this thing stands the test of time which by the looks of it's construction it will..it's is easily the best hatchet I've had in my life ....the head is great steel and the handle is perfect for the head. ....balanced perfect ....if u want to throw it at a target or keep it in a camping/survival kit it's as close to perfect of any hatchet on the market ....bang for buck or if the price doubled I'd be happy still,....literally took it to work and showed this one off.

Absolutely great for the money.
The wood grain is nice and straight on the handle. It's actually a bit closer to a 60 degree offset. Which some believe is better than absolute straight grain. The bottom seat is pretty consistent around. You can see a slight gap around the back side. That will cause problems later. But acceptable for the price. The top seems cut low but the size of the wedge and the set ring gives me confidence. As always, time will tell. But on its face, looks like a really well made took and at a really cheap price point.

Great quality for the price. I have used a few cheap axes for my camping trips but this one is the game changer.
