Tetris Acid Trip
Arguably, when you do look at puzzle games over the years, there are some games that work well for a few trips, but lose sheen with time, like Candy Crush Saga & other games that have been timeless, but sadly lost touch with the world for little while. That has been the case with Tetris. Since it debuted in America with the Nintendo Game Boy in 1989, the worldwide success of the puzzle game has had a dynamite & challenging atmosphere that is highly addictive & wonderfully entertaining. There have been many different variations Nintendo fans have had over the years like Tetrisphere for the Nintendo 64 & the recently released Tetris 99 battle royale game for the Nintendo Switch. But when I saw this game from Tetris, I was definitely blown away with the fun. It made me really fall in love again with a classic reborn for a whole new generation. Tetris Effect: Connected for the Nintendo Switch is a wildly addictive puzzle game that takes the classic atmosphere of the original Tetris game & puts it more like a wildly addictive acid trip. The game is classic Tetris, but as the stages change, the sound effects & the music changes with each you atmosphere you enter. It feels like it is a new breath of fresh air from an old friend you've loved when you met them as a child. It is where the atmosphere is hypnotic & changes with great delights. The music also works very well here because it blends in with the levels so nicely with mixtures of electronica, jazz & moments in history. There are levels where you feel like you're on the streets of New York in a old city charm of Broadway to another one were you'd feel like you're riding with a group of dolphins across the sea. The graphics are absolutely great & the music really pops with each stage you go through in the many campaigns like the journey mode. The control is also very easy to manage when you play the game. It doesn't feel jaded & is very simple & accurately easy to manage in each stage of the game. But there is only one main disadvantage, which is a small one, but not anything major. You get difficulty spikes that pop-up from each stage where you're going from a 1 speed & warping into a 6 speed when you go through each 1/3 of the 30 line removal stages. It can be a difficulty spike that can easily throw you off & is not as gradual as expected from prior Tetris titles. You will lose your steps at times. But that is just a minor complaint. This game sustains all the way with ease & absolutely addictively entertaining. When it does come down to it, nothing can compare to the first time you have played the addictive Tetris. Playing the game for the first time proved that you can never beat the arcade puzzle classic, the game will always defeat you when you lose your steps. Tetris Effect: Connected is just another reminder of that addictive game you first played on the Nintendo Game Boy decades ago & it really hits the nail on the head with fun & can trip you up enough that you won't feel as overcome or tired as you have with other puzzle games that have felt more endless while wore their welcomes out like Cookie Jam or Toon Blast for smartphones. I absolutely recommend Tetris Effect: Connected. It is one of the most overlooked guilty pleasure games for the Nintendo Switch you could find & when you play it, you'll be on one of the best acid trips you have ever felt addicted with in your life. Give this game a try. Graphics: A Sound: A 1/2- Control: A- Fun & Enjoyment: B+ Overall: A-

The best Tetris game ever made! Amazing Soundtrack!
I first experienced Tetris Effect: Connected through my Oculus (meta...) Quest VR headset, and was absolutely blown away by it. The visuals and soundtrack, mixed with the classic Tetris gameplay, made for one of my favorite gameplay experiences in a very long time. It was a total zen experience for me, and is, in my opinion, the greatest Tetris game ever created! (and that says a lot when comparing it to the original NES version and Tetrisphere on the N64!) It is definitely the best way to play, but I liked it so much that I decided to purchase the Switch verision too, so I could play it anywhere I wanted! Even though this is not in VR, it is still an amazing game, and a lot of fun. The main "campaign" is classic Tetris with nothing but falling blocks. You have the ability to hold a single block to use at a later time, but that is the extent of any extra gameplay elements. What makes it different is how the music and stages affect the pacing of the game. Some stages will speed up in sync with the music, and each stage has a different visual theme, with the blocks changing how they look with each stage. The music is synced-up to your gameplay as well; with songs progressing only after you clear a certain amount of lines. It does have a challenge mode, where you can choose from different time challenges and gameplay goals to get the best score. You can also connect online to see how your score compares to others around the world. They also have weekly online challenges that you can participate in. If you like the original Tetris, you will love this. I highly recommend it! Plus, the soundtrack is pure brilliance in how it's been integrated into the game. The songs are wonderful too! So much so that I have also purchased the soundtrack separately...it's so good!
