Shimano ST-5703 105 3-Speed Shift Lever

Hard to find replacement shift/brake lever for 10 year old Trek road bike that came with Shimano 105 / 5703 components. Brand new, works perfectly and the bike shifts like new again.

Replaced an Ultegra double shifter with this 105 triple shifter, as part of a change from Compact to Triple crankset. This shifter performs flawlessly.

Some shifters come with both brake and shift cables and housing. This one includes only the shift cable. The shifter works fine.

Bought this to replace an identical shifter on my road bike that broke after hitting pavement in a crash. Fairly simple do-it-yourself project to swap them, and now works fine. I was able to re-use my cables, but if I did this again I'd get new cables at the same time: it's just a little harder to route old cable back through all the sheathing and what not, and a relatively small expense to get new ones.

No 11 speed triple is available from Shimano but this one will fill the bill. I went to a 11 speed 105 cassette and rear derailleur which shifts perfectly but it must use a 11 speed chain. The 10 speed FC-5703 with a ST-5703 shifter and FD-5703 front derailleur shifts perfectly. The 10 speed chain is slightly wider so will not work with 11 speed cassettes. Since the 11 speed chain is just a bit narrower it can be adjusted to shift perfectly.

If you're running a latest generation 105 triple on your road bike, this is the left/front shift lever you need. It works as it should. But my goodness, almost $150 for a shift lever? It's ridiculous. And that's the discounted Amazon price. I put only about 8000 miles on my bike with the original shift levers when one day the front shifter completely locked up. The brake still worked but the large lever would not move to the right at all, leaving me stuck in my small chainring. There are so many tiny fiddly parts inside the shifter that you need a specialist to have a hope of repairing it. I hate the fact that such an expensive part lasts only that long. But, I'm locked into buying that kind of stuff as long as I have this bike.
