I purchased this SMALLRIG hot shoe mount 2-pack in 2020 and they’re still working perfectly. I use them regularly to mount accessories like microphones and small lights, and they hold everything securely. The fit is tight and doesn’t wobble, which is exactly what you want when mounting gear on a camera or rig. After about a year of continuous use, the tightening mechanism started to feel a bit stiff. A small amount of lubricant helped and they went back to turning smoothly. Other than that minor maintenance, they’ve been very durable and haven’t stripped or loosened over time. They are very easy to use and very compatible. SmallRig 1/4" Camera Hot Shoe Mount, Ballhead Tripod with Additional 1/4" Screw These are cold shoe mounts, not hot shoe mounts, as is claimed in the item title. Just a (big deal) FIY, of which I thought it pertinent to inform y'all. Fortunately, I don't need hot shoe mounts. I didn't pay attention to the title (til just now when I received them) because I was too busy looking at the item itself to meet my needs. That said, I am extremely happy with these mounts and can't wait to use them! They are solid metal (with the exception of the locking handle), the ball joint moves freely and smoothly, and they lock very well. The screws are very smooth. High quality machining. Very sturdy mounts and the shoe comes off for regular mounting on a tripod! The mounts are packed very well and they're separated in the packing roll so as not to scratch each other in the box. They come with two allen wrenches and two extra screws in little resealable bag that seems to be made of a Tyvek like material, so it'll be plenty durable for years to come! I'm not a professional photographer, but I know quality when I see it!! 🙂🙂 You won't be disappointed! I highly recommend!!!!

I love SmallRig for making so much fantastic gear at reasonable prices (plus, after them reaching out to me, I love them even more for their top-notch customer service!), though this item needs one simple fix - on the cold shoe end, you can only make it secure by tightening the whole unit all the way down, which turns the plastic tightening ring into nothing more than a washer. If you don't tighten it all the way down, either it won't be snug in the cold shoe, or the whole unit will spin freely. Instead, make the cold shoe insert screw longer and add TWO of those tightening rings. Then you can tighten the unit to the cold shoe, and tighten the unit, enabling you to easily position the unit in whichever direction you wish. In my case, I was able to crank it down a little extra tight in order to get the 90-degree bend where I wanted, but I wonder if I'll sometimes have to remove the cold shoe insert and rotate it 90 or 180 degrees in order to make that happen. Also, if you don't use the cold shoe attachment and simply screw the main assembly to your cage (or whatever), then my whole point becomes completely unimportant and irrelevant.

These are solid accessory mounts. I have several from years ago and they’re still used. Price is good also. Thank you.
