A go to game on game nights at our place!
So much fun! Bought this as a bday present for 5/8 year old girls, and they absolutely love it. The play is a little complex and you'll need to refer to instructions again and again the first time you play it, but easy afterwards. My 5 year old is able to play independently and win after playing this about 3 times now. Highly recommend!

Light card game, fun to play
The game was fun. There were a few moments I felt like rules needed more clarification, other than that, a great buy. Will help kids practice their math (+-×÷). It had enough complexity to be engaging but was really easy to learn and play. Fairly short with 3 players. The artwork was great.

Great on its own, not as a sequel.
Sleeping Queens is one of my family's most played games. Not because it is the greatest game on Earth, but because it is quick to table, easy to teach, and you can easily play several games in a very short time. It has a lot of luck, the slightest bit of strategy, non-hateful take-that, and it's just plain fun. It has become one of our go-to filler games regardless of who we are playing with, and it's always a hit. Then comes along the sequel and we couldn't wait to get our hands on it. The Good: As we've come to expect from Gamewright, the quality of the components is great. The cards, cardboard standouts, & dice are all great. The game has good table presence, and once you've set it up a couple times it is quick to prep. It's light enough to be welcoming to younger players, yet enough going on to keep older ones interested. There is a lot of luck in the game, but there are enough choices to keep it engaging. The Bad: I don't have anything inherently bad to say about the game. Overall, I like the game. My only 'problem' is that it's not Sleeping Queens. Part of what my family loves about the original is lost in the sequel, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the brevity of the original? I can also fully admit that I would probably like this one better if you simply re-themed it and gave it a different name. On its own it's a fine game. As a sequel I was a bit disappointed.

BEST GAME
We love Gamewright games in general and have had Sleeping Queens for years. This game is SUPER cute, easy to play and so so fun. As soon as my daughter opened it, we started playing. Literally has played it for days non stop. The pictures are clever and creative. And although the overall goal isn't super complicated, the game play is engaging enough that my older kids and my husband and I like to play too! Great family game. Another winner, Gamewright!!

Fun game with a little math
My students love this game! I play with kids 9-11 and they request to play it all the time. We have all three versions and they like each one but enjoy the knights the most in this game. The game doesn’t take too long to play and it’s small enough to not take up too much room in my classroom. It didn’t take too long for us to learn and has been great for a little math fact practice.

It is a favorite of my 11 year old. We love how quick it can be played.

Too complicated
The beauty of the first game was its simplicity so young kids through adults could all enjoy the game together. The only complexity in it was really the math and so it was a great way to practice math facts as well as adding up to 50 by 10s and 5s (had to reach a certain number of points with your queens to win). The characters were charming and our anniversary edition had even more characters to love. The sequel game is more complicated. In the original, you just draw and play - very straightforward. This game has a roll die, move knights with special powers around, queens cannot save a king without a helper animal, and everything seems to have multiple choices or decisions, plus queens can still be put to sleep and have to be woken up. Just reading the rules for the game, I got bored and confused and my seven year old walked out. This is only the second game where reading rules made me never want to play the game. It did not help either that my favorite characters like the Puzzle King were absent in this game. Though I did like the addition of the music King (my husband plays drums). When we finally sat down to play the game, we had an ok time but had to keep checking the rules and made some mistakes. Instructions are not clear on certain instances like if you can use a Switch Witch to swap a sleeping queen with an awake one. We will probably play the game again, but I was very disappointed that you no longer added to a certain point value to win - you just need a certain number of kings (2-3 depending on group size). We play the original game for the math practice, so because the sequel has far less math in it - it automatically won't be played as much. Then add in the all this complexity and its not a game the parents want to reach for. If you like more complicated games, then give this a chance. But if you want something simple to practice math facts in a fun way - stick the original game.

The First Sleeping Queens was a great game. This one is just as good and different enough from the first to be a stand alone game. Ages around 5-6 and up will enjoy.

Me encantó; cumplió todas mis expectativas.

It’s second best after Sleeping Queens. Definitely worth buying if you like the original one.
