Purchased this for my Microsoft Surface as the branded adapters were incredibly overpriced. This however, does the job perfectly for a small fraction of the cost and have had no issues connecting my HDMI devices to my laptop.

Used it on a Microsoft Surface Pro and a Dell XPS 12 and it works flawlessly every time. Just plug it in and go. Good quality construction from a trusted brand I've used before. Only tip is to ensure the male connector is inserted the right way round as with all mini display ports, if you don't and apply pressure, you can easily damage the socket on your device.

Bought this to use for my Surface Pro that has a mini DisplayPort as the only supported means of connecting to an external monitor. I'm not a big fan of the DisplayPort but I cannot think of a better solution than using this adapter and I'm pleased with the build quality of the product. The output to the LED monitor is great and I haven't noticed any picture quality issues. Would recommend for fellow Surface owners at least.

Bought to connect Apple MacBook Air 2017 version to HDMI. Worked first time out of the box. Great quality StarTech product again. 😀

good quality product, as usual StarTech provides good quality at lower prices, definitely worth paying a bit more than those cheap as chips adapters that generally come unbranded and generally break or cause problems after little to no time at all. Not worth the risk to your components using the cheap rubbish, particularity if they are carrying a power supply that can damage expensive equipment on the occasions when it shorts across to the wrong pins etc ...

I have a Surface Pro 2 and needed an adaptor to get the display onto an HD TV. This short lead plugs into the Pro 2 display port and then uses a full-size HDMI cable to connect it to the TV. Sounds simple, and it is, but it wasn't simple identifying the right piece of kit to buy. This did the job and looks a good quality item. Would recommend to a Surface Pro 2 user.

Ordered the converter a week ago(29/03/13), it arrived today morning. Tried it out immediately. Initially had problems with the sound but if you order it and find that the audio doesn't work initially try to change your default audio device by right clicking on the sound icon in your task manager, select playback devices, your TV should appear as the last option on the screen that comes up, choose it as your default audio device. If this doesn't work its likely your laptop has a video card that doesn't allow the converter to pass audio through. I have a toshiba tecra a11 (bought circa 2011), the TV is an LG 42lD490(released circa 2011).

I have had two of these now and both let me down at critical times.

UPDATE: This is a correction to an earlier review mentioned below. Further research on my part -- including online research -- reveals this to be a software issue with Windows and Microsoft Surface Pros. Since this works perfectly with my Acer laptop, I've changed my rating for this product. I plug this into my laptop and then an HDMI cable to connect it to my external monitor. Works perfectly. Update: Today it failed after only a couple of weeks of use. Not sure what the deal is. I've confirmed that the HDMI cabling and the monitor are not the issue by using them both with another laptop. I noticed about several days ago, that the monitor would stop working for a second or two. It started to happen with increasing frequency over the next several days, then stopped working completely today. Personally, I don't recommend this unit.

En mi caso, ha cumplido las expectativas con solvencia. Sin ningún problema, mantiene calidad audio y video. Recomendable por su relación calidad-precio.

After buying my Surface Pro I realized I wanted, no, needed to hook this beautiful piece of equipment to the biggest TV I could find. Unfortunately after laying out all that money for a Surface Pro, I was hesitant to spend another $50 for the official Microsoft Surface Pro HDMI adapter. For $15 I decided to take a gamble on this adapter. It works like a champ. When the Surface Pro 2s came out I grabbed one. This adapter works just as well with it. I currently have it connected to a 40" TV and it works fine. I did have to shut off overscan on my TV, but that has nothing to do with the adapter. With my Surface Pro (not 2) I was not able to get sound over this adapter, even though both mini Display Port and HDMI support that. I don't know if that's a limitation of the Surface Pro or not. I have not tried with the Surface Pro 2 yet. I'm using it with a Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station with Dual Video Outputs for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, XP (HDMI and DVI/ VGA to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter) dock and have speakers directly attached to it. If you have a Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 and want a cheaper HDMI adapter, this fits the bill. tk
