Traditional Stainless Steel Border Spade with 712mm Wooden Handle

Good quality item. Have been using for the best part of a gardening season now and it's handled everything with no damage. Comfortable to use, not to heavy, cuts through the earth well.

This polished-steel wooden-handled border spade (bought direct from AMAZON.CO.UK and not a Third Party) is stunning; perfectly balanced, sturdy construction and piece of art (I hope I can actually bring myself to use it and to get it dirty/scratched/dented). The D-handle format is pinned strongly to guarantee (10 year's from S&J) a long life, and the dimensions of the spade's metal section is job-specific. Overall, it's not too large or too heavy; just right. Don't forget that this is not a "digging or shovelling spade" but a precision tool. In the last five years we have destroyed two other border spades (plastic handled and a "Hammerite finished" metal section) - snapping at the junction of the plastic/metal - both costing about £8.00 from a high street DIY chain, so we thought we'd spend a bit more (£19.97) for a quality product that would last (and have that manufacture's guarantee - which we hope they will oblige if things go wrong.). SPEAR AND JACKSON recommend that buyers should treat the handle/shaft with linseed oil (used on Cricket Bats) to "feed" the wood to keep it in tip-top condition. Happy gardening in 2012.

Have bought a few of these spades before. I have read a few reviews on here that mention quality issues with the handle grip and the shaft bolting, however In my case the spade was built to a decent standard. These spades are not for heavy clay work or heavy-duty digging in rough terrain, they are as the name suggests border spades and better suited to digging over pre forked or lighter soils. On the whole it is a usable lightweight, small but robust spade when used in the right manner...

This has to be one of my best buys...I had shopped around for a while to find the one best for me...After reading the reviews I decided to go ahead and purchase one...It has not disappointed me, not only does it look good, it makes light work of edging my borders...It is not heavy and I found it enjoyable to use...It is very sturdy and when using you just know that its not going to break (as other cheaper models will)...I would recommend this to anyone and its well worth paying just that little bit more for something that will last you for years....

Abasolutamente imprescindible, los ingleses saben bien lo que hacen. Perfecto para hacer macizos y parterres, la tierra apenas se queda pegada, muy ergonomica y calidad excelente.

Cette bêche me paraît de bonne qualité, le manche n'est pas très grand mais il est ergonomique, et ça peut aider pour facilité le trou dans le sol . Je ne connaissais pas cette marque ( spear & Jackson ) et on peut retrouver des outils de jardins en magasin. Le prix me paraît assez correct
