Really handy little soldering iron, with a nice fine tip. I use mine with Duracell Duralock batteries and it has no problem heating up. Perfect for repairing guitar pedals and DI boxes and desoldering microchips. Had previously used gas irons for 'on site' tech repairs, and still keep one with me for some of the heavier duty jobs, but 9 times out of 10 this will do the job nicely. Its really nice not to have heat vented from the side like you get with gas irons, all the heat is where you need it at the tip.

This is the worst piece of kit that I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. I had and still do use a mains powered soldering iron, which although slightly large, works really well and has lasted 10 years. This item was purchased because I had started doing fine soldering and the other iron was too big. I tried every AA battery known to man but still it heats so slowly that there is every chance that the second coming will occur before it is ready. But it nevers seems to get hot enough to melt the solder, ever, it does get WARM and thats about all. DO NOT BUY - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Handy cordless soldering Iron
Really handy heats up fast and for my purposes, the tip size is most suited for the soldering of the tiny surface mounted components. Cheap as chips and gets the job done.

Great, if youre willing to modify it a bit....
Works okay if you use decent batteries, but don't expect them to last very long. Its a fine work tip as well, I wouldn't use it for anything bigger than hookup wire. I liked the size and convenience of this but not the battery performance so I ended up using a lithium battery and usb charger and now it works like an absolute dream for about an extra £4. Took a bit of hacking the casing about but definitely worth it - Ive even made a few by request for hobbyist friends! :) Charging Module - SODIAL(R) MICRO USB 5V 1A Lithium Battery Charging Module Lipo Charge Board + Protection New 2X 3.7V 18500 Li-ion LED Flashlight Torch Battery Pack Rechargeable

Ok.
As a cordless tool it never seens hot enough to melt the solder efficiently. Holding the power in is awkward and does not help the issue. I will stick with mains elec.

Another Quality Product from Silverline
This item arrived on time and is an excellent addition to the tool box. No lead needed no power outlet needed no Gas or Naked flame needed just good old battery power and it works just as good as my old plug in iron. Another quality product from Silverline at a nice price

Surprisingly Good
I wasn't expecting much of this - big surprise; it did exactly as claimed! Hot enough to melt solder within 15 seconds and cool enough to handle 30 seconds later. It will be great for those repair jobs out in the field - literally; I fly a small quadcopter that often burns out motors and replacements have to have their wires soldered on. I would have preferred a flat tip rather than the point but you can't have everything ... or can you? Perhaps I'll grind a flat on it. For the price, well worth adding to your traveling toolkit.

Unable to recommend - buyer beware.
Just started doing some PCB work, saw this and thought ideal so purchased. Product arrived well packed in celluloid and looked good unpacked and removed safety cover ( excellent idea ) and saw soldering tip which has a fine point and ideal for getting at small contacts. Inserted batteries and found problems. so my comments re advert information as follows Heats up in 15 seconds and cools down in 30 seconds - mine took 2 minutes to melt solder Soldered lead to board fine but tip seemed to loose heat and had to wait approx 15 seconds to solder next joint. Needed to splice some leads and iron failed miserably. Just could not get enough heat to melt solder with flux so no chance for joins which were tinned and twisted. Also had problems soldering leads to a potentiometer again seem lack of heat was cause. Went back to mains version ( same manufacturer ) and had no problems but also had 40 watts instead of 8. So will have to get Dremmel out and create my own tip. 3 x AA batteries provide 1 hour of continuous use - mine lasted just over half an hour with new batteries For intricate electronic work and on-the-go repairs - YES I agree Slider safety switch and on/off button - YES but ( and I know not everyone will agree ) a button lock would have been nice as finger aches and cramps after long use. So all in all a nice looking Soldering iron but sadly let down by performance. My recommendations, lock on button, change to a 9 volt system instead of 4 1/2 volts ,increase power and add a facility to operate from either USB or mains via an adapter.
