Better than run of the mill drum keys, but pricey
Bought this as wanted something a little more substantial than the usual drum keys to go into a drum maintenance kit for drum tech work. This certainly fits the bill, sturdy and magnetic with a longer reach. Being able to spin it with the top part extension can make changing heads quicker. Its expensive compared to others, but as part of a drum servicing kit where you can keep track of where the key, its worth it. Still a place for the cheaper ones, that if you lose you can just reach for another one! Would I buy again? Yes although hopefully I won't need to!

Super little gadget
I've been playing for over 30 years and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've always struggled tuning drums - to the extent that I've avoided doing it unless absolutely necessary and didn't enjoy doing it. I've previously relied on finger tightening, then matching turns on a drum key on opposite lugs and testing the tone around the edge of the drum. However, I just never seemed to get it quite right and would end up tweaking to try and get rid of overtones. This little gadget is so simple to use. Finger tightening first as before, but then turning the key until the plastic section clips away from the main section. You start off with it on a loose setting on the adjustable dial underneath and then tighten further as you tune until you get to the required tension. You do need to ensure your lug screws are able to rotate freely. I fully tuned one of my kits with double heads in less than an hour and tap tested round the edge as I went. They tuned so easily and with none of the overtones I'd occasionally struggled with. It has made me less apprehensive about tuning my drums. Very pleased and it's staying in my drum bag.

Great for a quick tune of a kit
Great for a quick tune of a kit. Obviously studio tuning requires something like a Tune-bot, but for rehearsals and small gigs, this will do a standard 5 piece kit in 10 - 15 mins, to a good enough standard. The only downside is that the tension dial is easily moved when resetting the key position, if care is not taken. It took me a while to realise this.

Gets you in the ball park
If you've got a well kept drum kit with clean and greased lugs, this tool it excellent and will help tune your toms really quickly (providing you follow the instructions). Might need a tiny tweak after use, just to even out any slight wobbles as you tap round the edge of your tom / lugs. If you, like me, are using this on a second hand drum kit, with crusty rusting lugs, this tool is very little help. Any sign of rust increases the lug friction / tension and leaves this tool useless. This is NOT a slight on the product though, just a word of warning for any prospective purchasers who own a crusty lugged kit!

Quick and convenient. Gave me confidence in my tunings
I find it a fantastic way of being confident all rods are tensioned the same (or thereabouts) and more importantly to the same level. When I used to tune just by sound, I found overall pitch would just creep up as I tried to tune all points the same. But now I can head straight for a low, mid or high tuning really quickly. Saw a Drumeo review on tuning that was very complimentary about the Evans torque key, but they did say it was perhaps less suitable for older drums where hoop warping or dodgy rod threads might mean all rods might not tension the same.

Does what it says on the tin
It just fits into any normal electric drill. Really helps for changing heads quickly. I switch back to using my fingers once you are getting tight though.

Expensive but a great tool
Takes a lot of the guesswork out of fitting new heads or tuning your drums.

While the bit does have a slight notch in the shaft, its purely aesthetic and won't click into a driver. If you intend to use it with a drill, you won't have an issue. But if you expect a hex shaft to fit your existing hex shaft tools, I'm afraid you'd be unpleasantly surprised.

This product is supposed to fit a standard electric screwdriver. It's the same exact shape but the size is bigger. It is thicker than the size that fits into the electric screwdriver. I have been using the DW drum key drill bit and it is great. Due to availability had to place this order. Now it doesn't even fit. Even after sanding the edges.
