Easy to install with positive results in Cyprus in around a month
We live in Cyprus and our mains water is heavily processed and during the summer after a dry winter it can often be from desalination plants which has even more processing and is far from salty soft! After living in our house for 15 years deposits must have built up in our water fixtures which has an effect on the amount of water that flows through taps and showers so I thought we would try an Eddy. All the water pipes in our house are PVC but the fixtures and fittings are all regular limescale attracting stainless steel and copper Our water supply enters our property in a 20mm polyethylene (PE) pipe which is perfectly suitable for installing the Eddy on. The mains water pipe happens to run right beside my shed which meant it was an ideal place for a quick and easy installation. The coils that wrap around the pipe are OK to be outdoors (as confirmed with the manufacturer) but obviously the Eddy itself needs to be protected from rain. I coiled the two supplied lengths of wire around the pipe leaving round 20-30cm spare and drilled two holes in my shed wall to feed the wire inside. The Eddy was fixed to the inside of the shed using the adhesive pads already applied to the back of the unit, which after a month is still holding firm in temperatures up to 40C and looks like its going to remain well stuck on. All in all a very easy installation which took around 20 minutes. Now for the results. Our mains water feeds a 2 tonne water tank on our roof which then feeds all the outlets in the house with the exception of one mains tap in the kitchen. Because of this the descaled water generated by the Eddy would not have been replaced in the tank immediately. It would have slowly diluted the original water in the tank over time but I believe we've now probably near 100% 'Eddy-ied' water in the tank. The Eddy has been installed and running 24hrs a day for just over a month. It's too early to say if it has improved water flow by reducing limescale deposits but there is a definite softening of the crusty bits that form on the tap outlets which are beginning to reduce during regular cleaning. The effect on the water when washing and showering which others have commented on is also very apparent. Soaps and shampoo lather up much more giving an overall softer feel (even though this is not technically a water softening device). Granted, the changes we've noticed are not dramatic but that's not what we expected. Hopefully over time this little box is going to keep softening limescale deposits and keep the insides of our pipework and fixtures trouble free.

Very effective and at a great price
Update: three years later we still have our Eddy and it's still brilliant. My neighbors have way more limescale in their flats than we do and it's all down to the Eddy. Highly recommended. Original review: Supposedly it can take a while (even months) to have an effect as pipes can have a lot of scale build up. Perhaps because our flat is new, we IMMEDIATELY saw a SIGNIFICANT effect. It's most obvious on the shower screen. My first shower after installing the Eddy, the screen was actually CLEANER after the shower! The water from my Eddy shower was washing away the scale from previous showers! After scrubbing the screens properly, the new water splatter was virtually invisible (compared to before). The kitchen basin stays cleaner, too. These are just the differences we can see. I expect less scale will be good for our appliances in the long term. We've had the Eddy installed for over six months, and while I haven't seen additional improvement over that time, the immediate effects have remained. (Again, I wouldn't expect any additional improvement since our pipes were brand new so didn't have long-term build up). Installation was relatively simple. We got the extension wires so that we could wrap the hot and cold pipes separately (we have two intake pipes). The Eddy doesn't actually soften the water, it just uses magnetism to make scale less likely to stick to surfaces. Before purchasing the product, I read a lot of articles who say this method hasn't been proven to work. Well, maybe it hasn't been scientifically proven, but our results are amazing, so much better than I was expecting, so I don't care! I have no reservations about recommending this product. I will certainly never be without it as long as I live in an area with hard water.

Seems to work, sticky pads not so good
A friend had a similar device to this, so I decided to try it. After a couple of months it does seem to have made a difference. Water feels softer, soap lathers up better, and scale deposits in hot drinks and on surfaces are clearing up. We have extremely hard water, and it ruins everything. Installation was not too difficult, even in a cramped space. It just takes a while. The sticky pads don't work very well - adhesion to the plastic case failed after several weeks in an airing cupboard (which is where our water main comes in). I will install screws instead. Better quality 3M adhesive may help. The question is, do the cheaper ones work just as well? These devices are massively over-priced for what they are. The electronics inside cost a few pounds at most. Alternatives are available for a fraction of the price, but I have not compared them. I decided to try this on the basis of the year long money back guarantee, which unless it breaks I won't be claiming on.

It does what it says and as it it is not an "in line" product there is no reduction in flow.
I have had this item for about two years now and it was dead easy to install. The problem I had was the heat exchanger on my boiler was completely blocked with lime scale and I have had to have a new one installed which was a real pain to do so I need to avoid it happening again. We have also suffered from a kettle which needed weekly descaling and a shower head which was forever blocking up. Now, I cannot say if the water tastes better (not a big water drinker!) but I do think the soap lathers easier these days, the shower head is not blocked and the kettle is simply wiped clean each week. The truth is I have no real idea if it is doing what I really need it to do and keeping the heat exchanger clear (need to take it out to find out) but on the face of it there is definitely an improvement on the small items and I hope this translates into the major item. After nearly 2 years I still have not had to unblock the shower head or remove scale form the taps and the kettle is just wipe clean (I think the soft deposit is just what comes out as a result of boiling). I cannot actually tell for certain that my heat exchanging is clean but there has not been a reduction in flow to the bath and looking at the other items I think all is well. I am pretty certain it is doing what it is meant to be and such I am happy to recommend.

Incredible
I have had this installed for almost 6 months. It took approximately 3 months for the full effect to be realised due to the large storage tank in the loft (only a small percentage water change each day). I live in a very hard water area near to chalk downs. Prior to installing my Eddy I was having to descale my kettle and shower head every month plus removing calcite from around taps, toilet bowls, etc regularly. For the past 3-4 months I have not had to descale anything, any chalk build up in the kettle wipes off with a cloth/finger (i.e. it does not stick to the metal or element). All I have to do is rinse out the kettle every week or so to remove the loose chalk sediment from the base of the kettle. There is no calcite build up evident around the shower head, taps, toilet bowl or any other plumbing installation. Plus, like other previous feedback comments, the water seems softer to the touch - no, I didn't believe the comments at first either! But I can assure you it does. - and soap seems to lather more. Overall I am over the moon with the performance results of what is a very simple installation for such effective hard water softening. With the 12 months guarantee promise of a full refund from Eddy it is a no brainer. If you are fed up with the effects of hard water give one of these a try I doubt very much you will be disappointed.

improved water hardness a bit
live in vv hard water area, terrible limescale. 3 months later it is lightly improved with this device. according to measuring strips I've gone from worst level (8 of 8) to slightly less hard (6 of 8). can use dishwasher, slightly less streaks on shower screen, easier to clean bathroom easy to install and forget about

Wish we'd got this before.
My grandson fitted this thing for me as I'm broken and he was worried about the variation in pipe diameters when winding the wires on. We just tried it anyway and forgot about it. Fast forward two days, wife in bath and she evidently used the usual amount of foamy stuff. The water was so soft it just kept foaming so we paid attention again and this sucker is brilliant. We use less of everything soapy, the water feels different on the skin and it tastes different too. Not salty, just nicer. It's one of those things you buy and curse for not having got it before. Brilliant kit and worth the money for sure.
