Another outstanding bit of kit by knipex. I chose to pay a little extra, and went for the sprung pair of these quality mini bolt/wire curlers. Great choice if your going to use these repetitively! Cuts strong piano wire easily, thin steel rod, copper wire, nails, staples thick gauge fishing hooks and most other things within reason. I haven’t came across anything up to now it wouldn’t cut. But bear in mind if your planning to buy them specifically for bolts you would be better going for something a bit bigger. They have a handy catch that locks them closed so they take up less space among your tools, and it also stops them from wearing the cutting edge too I suppose! I managed to get them for a decent price by trawling Amazon (£30 ish as opposed to over £55 some were charging). They weren’t on special offer and I’m not getting any form of payment or discount for writing this review. Yes I’d buy them again, they’re Knipex quality!

This is a gift for my daughter who uses all kinds of tools to make wonderful things. She had borrowed one of these from a friend and was so impressed, said she would like one for her birthday. She said they are easy to use and very precise with cutting. All in all she was delighted.

Bit expensive but works perfectly. Cut through 4mm door handle screw without any effort.

I first used these while working in a garage, they cut through handbrake cables with ease. When tool vans came to show off their latest I always tried the best cutters they had against these, none could match the ease and cutting power of the Knipex. They have a 'compound' action which increases your hand force by a factor of 20. I have now purchased my own pair and use them for mostly fencing, (hence the opening spring), but small bolts, screws, chain pose no problem for them. Also available with shorter handles the 160, and longer the 220. They are expensive, but they are all the cutter you will ever need.

This product is more properly a heavy duty wire cutter rather than a bolt cutter. It cuts a ten penny common nail easily with 1 hand, and cuts a 16 penny nail with good pressure from two hands. (For comparison: I squeezed my bathroom scales and found that with both hands I can hold the scale at 150 lbs without bounce.) It cuts all types of insulated wire commonly used in houses easily and cleanly. I am unable to use it to cut cattle panel wire. The jaws open wide enough but it would not cut 1/4 inch round material unless it was exceptionally soft. This is a quality wire/nail cutter. It is a very handy size and comfortable to use. The lock mechanism is great. It serves well for most home/hobby wire cutting needs and will last most non-commercial users decades. If you need a wire cutter buy it. It is a good value.

KNIPEX 71 12 200 CoBolt Compact Bolt Cutters I have very weak wrists and hands so cutting wire is hell for me. I get lightening pains up through my wrists and arms using my old normal wore cutters. These still take some pressure with the larger stiff, little more than I thought it would however they are amazing. No more pains up my arms. I can cut about 9 times the amount in one day than I used to with the normal wire cutters. Picture of the new and old cutters attached. I cut barbed wire and cattle fencing wires, also chicken wire (which is such a brease to cut with these). Well worth the money, I highly recommend them. Update: I have now been using these for 9 months, they all of a sudden became really really stiff, they were not springing back open on there own and I had to really pull them open and squash hard for them to close (the spring is perfectly fine). I tried pouring some chain saw oil over them which did not help at all. So I took them to a tool repair shop who sprayed them with a lubricant that had smaller particles (chain saw oil is too thick and heavy to penetrate into the tiny gaps). When your cutting a lot of wire it creates a miniscule metal dust (like a powder) that gets stuck in the moving parts and causes it to jam. They recommended that I use WD40 to spray on it each time I use it to clean out the hinges. It is now as good as new, working perfectly again.
