PortaPow USB-C Data Blocker (Twin Pack)

Does exactly what it says - it allows electricity to pass through but not data. You can use this to safely recharge a phone at work or at a public terminal and there's no chance of getting spied on or picking up malicious software. The build quality is similar to that of the USB cable that came with my phone and it feels perfectly sturdy.

If you use a public charging point at any time these are an essential. Also useful with any charging from a PC or laptop, and especially if it is not your own. Easy to use and easy to carry.

These are great to block data in any sort of public environment when I just need power. I have found that on a few devices like docks they stop the dock supplying power and only work if I plugin a hub first. Nicely coloured to identify them as a data blocker too.

Out of the packet both of these do not work. Complete waste of time, look at the number of similar reviews. Great idea but these guys cannot make it work.

Per the product description, and the need for additional connections to negotiate high wattage power delivery, I find these max out at ~1.5A 5V (so <10W). They didn't work with any of my USB-C chargers but worked fine with A to C cables.

Have two USB-A data blockers from PortaPow, so was not expecting any issues. Doesn't work. Returned for refund.

It's a great way to safeguard your phone while charging in unfamiliar locations.

Moim zdaniem niezbędne akcesorium w podróży, ale również w pracy czy w domu. PortaPow jest przydatny wszędzie tam, gdzie chcemy skorzystać z zasilania portu USB, ale nie chcemy wymiany danych miedzy naszym urządzeniem a nieznaną ładowarką lub obcym komputerem. Zarówno przygodne ładowarki, jak i komputery mogą być niebezpieczne ze względu na możliwość próby ataku podłączonego telefonu złośliwym oprogramowaniem. Ma to znaczenie także wszędzie tam, gdzie korzystamy z komputera np. u znajomego czy w pracy, ale nie chcemy, by rozpoczynał on synchronizację z naszym telefonem, której możemy nie być w stanie w porę anulować. Chcemy po prostu jedynie skorzystać z zasilania USB w celu doładowania. Sama koncepcja tego typu zabezpieczenia nie jest nowa, bo od dawna słyszałem o zabezpieczeniach zwanych USB condom. Jednak PortaPow jest porządnie wykonany, co budzi zaufanie i zajmuje niewiele miejsca.

Don’t buy this, it doesn’t work - no power flows.

These work perfectly for allowing one to connect a device to any random USB-C port they come across without worrying about someone being able to hijack the data on the device. Now SHOULD one connect to a random USB-C port for charging? Not if you can avoid it but sometimes circumstances just dictate that you have to do so. This cable is for that situation. It provides power to your device while interrupting the data lines so that a suspicious host device cannot steal or mess with your data. I've used equipment from PortaPow for a few years now and never had any issues with them. Running some simple tests with simple test equipment and my phone and tablet I noted that I was able to negotiate a high(er?) charging rate than I would have had with just a 2-wire power connection. This seems to indicate that there is enough "smarts" in the cable to ensure better-than-minimum charge rates. Although YMMV as I see various reviews that certain devices could not negotiate the higher charge rates. Not having access to a full test suite I can only report that--for my own uses--they work fine and are from a company I trust.
