Tons of a fun in a small package.
For a budget figure there is a lot to like here. The paint is well done, it looks great in both modes, and is a good fiddle figure to occupy your hands.

Figure is awesome but...
I'm not writing this to bash the figure which like the title says is awesome it's about the delivery, I'm glad I'm not a MISB collector cause I would of been pissed. The figure arrived in a ups envelope with my address cut ftom a different box and taped to it and the packaging for the figure was soaking wet.

Decent figure, but limited by the gimmick
This is a nice little Grimlock whose t-rex mode looks great. His robot mode is a mixed blessing, though. On the one hand, he doesn't look like every single other Grimlock out there, which is nice. Since most Grimlocks are G1 Grimlock, like this one, or are based off G1's design, they all tend to look alike and it makes me wonder what the point of getting them is if I'm buying what is essentially the same design over and over. This Grimlock's more boxy design makes him stand out more, which is nice. On the other hand, the fact he looks so boxy makes him look less imposing, which kinda irks me. His design is centered around his combining gimmick, so that means the robot mode looks had to compromise a little to incorporate the combining, so just keep that in mind.

Grimlock puts Volcanicus' foot down.
Tiny Grimlock is the third release in the Legacy Dinobots and like the rest of his team transforms from robot to dino to limb part (left leg/foot) for Volcanicus. Due to the price point and toy size a lot of corners are cut and compromises are made to accomplish all three objectives and Grimlock is no exception. Decent if oddly proportioned robot mode (his 'wings' can be restored by just rotating the back parts upwards) transforms into an upright T-Rex with a really large back that juts out from the sides in relation to the dino's back/chest. Leg mode is half sturdy (robot arms/dino legs are pulled forward onto the robot chest, snap together and and then are snapped into robot waist to prevent them from moving and robot legs/dino back stays the same as dino mode) and half floppy and ill thought out (dino chest parts/robot wings and dino head just kind of flops over on top of Grimlock's head with nothing snapping to keep them in place along with the instructions saying to rotate Grimlock's left 'wing' forward to give future leg partner Snarl more room). The toy also comes with a separate piece that serves as a gun for robot mode and a tail for dino mode that stores on the back of the leg in combiner form. All in all a decent small Grimlock if you can live with the weird dinosaur back and aforementioned leg mode issues. Can't comment yet on how the combiner leg holds up when the entire gestalt is completed.

I was in it for Volcanous
I collect the smaller transformers where the alt modes are 1:43ish for cars and 1:72ish for planes. And Im a huge combiner fan so this is a dream come true. Yes the combined mode is kind of terrible. But if you consider the combined mode as a bonus the robot and dino modes are quite good. Combined is acceptable. Grimlock is literally a brick. Its very possible 3rd party companies will create upgrades that can help visually. All of them need the correct swords. All of these desperately need sticker upgrades which Im hopeing toyhax will come through and design a set of stickers for all 6 once the set is finished. But now is the time to get these. Once the upgrades start rolling in people will want these and demand and prices will go up.
