When I Caught You

What a beautiful and poignant story about the incredible bond between father and son. “When I Caught You” weaves in the special moments that are captured when we slow down enough to notice them. The journey, togetherness, and experiences all swirl together like the wind to wrap those we love in a hug. This reminded me of how my mom (to this day) calls me her “daily gift”. A touching story for all ages that allows us to walk down memory lane of nostalgia with our loved ones. From the soft illustrations to the touching words, this is sure to be a bedtime favorite for years to come! Izzy definitely “caught” his father’s legacy perfectly in this book as his memories will live on in every page turn!

This beautifully written and illustrated story took me into some of the coziest memories of my own childhood. The connection of the father to son was not unlike that of my dad to me and one I hope my son will recognize that he has with both his dad and I as we read this story to him tonight. This is a wonderful book to snuggle down and read before bed as you soak up those last few precious moments from the day with your little ones. Wonderful story once again, Izzy B!

This is a very sweet book where the father is able to share his wisdom to his som. Through this story, the bear learns the value of relationships within the family.

WHEN I CAUGHT YOU is told through a father and son fishing trip. Though no fish take the bears’ bait, the father illuminates for his son all the reasons their day was a success, ending with his favorite—when Daddy tosses his son in the air and catches him. Dedicated to the author’s father, this is a sweet remembrance, and a poignant reminder that every day has its joys when we take our time to notice.

Perhaps it’s the pregnancy hormones but I couldn’t keep the tears at bay when I read this book to my boys in our new rocking chair. When I Caught You is a precious story about a father and son who *take the long way* to their favorite fishing spot. Even THAT line in itself started making me emotional because it’s clear that Dad Bear just wants to spend quality time with his son. The day is nearly over and Dad Bear says it was an amazing day! Little Bear is puzzled…how was it an amazing day?! We caught NO fish! Dad Bear uses this opportunity to teach his son the *real* value of the fishing trip… This has honestly been my favorite Izzy B book yet. The illustrations are stunning, we don’t expect anything less from Izzy B but it’s what the story is based on that touched me. Backmatter includes real-life photos of the father soon duo that inspired this book: Izzy B and his Dad! The author’s Dad is no longer with us but boy, what a beautiful way to remember him with this beautiful picture book. Highly recommend!

Wow, this is such a beautiful story about father and son who spend the day fishing together. Little Bear learns from his dad what's really important. Stunning illustrations that compliment this warm and loving relationship between father and son. And make sure you read Izzy B's testimony to his Dad at the end!

I love this book! At the end of the day, time with your children wins out over the things of life that will be forgotten soon. Little things done together become big memories.

I think this is one of those books that you and your child will read again and again together, and then one day your child will read it with their child. Precious!

I loved how Izzy so wonderfully captured the notion that sometimes togetherness is enough and that nature is enough. He caught my heart with his beautiful descriptions of nature and how we need to catch it and take it all in.

This is such an adorable and easy read. The story is direct and heartwarming and the illustrations gorgeous. I am sure parents and grandparents will enjoy it as much as children.
