Product Description After his zoologist wife is killed in a car crash, Bob Rueland (David Duchovny) dedicates himself to building the gorilla enclosure which meant so much to her. He has no plans to fall in love again, and is surprised to find himself drawn to local waitress Grace (Minnie Driver). Romance blossoms, but their developing relationship is haunted by a shocking secret: Grace has recently recovered from a heart transplant operation in which she was given Bob's wife's heart. desertcart.co.uk Review A romantic comedy vehicle for X-Files star David Duchovny, Return to Me costars Minnie Driver as Grace, an ailing waitress whose life is saved when she receives a heart transplant. Meanwhile, Duchovny's architect Bob is grieving over the death of his zoologist wife and sweetheart since childhood Elizabeth (Joely Richardson), killed in a car accident. A year on, he agrees to go out on a disastrous blind date redeemed by his encounter with the comely and witty Grace. Abetted by her redoubtable Irish Catholic grandfather (played by Carroll O'Connor), they hit it off and start dating. But when Grace accidentally discovers from whom she received the vital organ that saved her life the blossoming relationship is tested to its utmost.Return to Me is not for the hardboiled cynic-it's a gentle, funny and very charming tragi-comedy. It's sweetly chaste, too, with Grace's self-consciousness about the chest scar from her operation precluding any steamy sex scenes. All this adds to its old-world charm, which is further exacerbated by O'Connor and his ageing restaurant staff's late-night card games, in which they discuss the merits of Sinatra and Dean Martin and generally function as a seven dwarves-type collective to Driver's Snow White. James Belushi also chimes in as the lovably slobbish hubby of Grace's best friend. Ultimately, however, the success of the film is down to the shy chemistry between Duchovny and Driver. On the DVD: The feature itself is presented in 16:9 widescreen. Numerous extras include trailers, a deleted scene, a music video for the featured big band number "What If You Loved Me", and an audio commentary by writer/director Bonnie Hunt, in which she talks about the unpredictable joys of working with Sydney the Gorilla, whose on-screen performance outshines those of many of the humans. --David Stubbs Review: Ok - Lovely film good quality dvd fast arrival Review: One of my favourites - I LOVE this film. It's poignant and funny, and sad, yet i had a grin on my face nearly all the way through it. The two leads have fantastic chemistry, and the acting is top notch. A fantastic feel good film you'll be thinking about for months, if not years later. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and dont know why it's not more well known.

An Old Fashioned Gem
Despite the fact that this movie was made in 2000, it has a very old-fashioned feel to it and it goes up there as one of my top ten favourite films. When Bob, a widower, meets Grace, a waitress, in an Irish Italian bar, he has no idea that she is the recipient of his dead wife's heart. But they both feel a strange bond right from the beginning. They fall in love and then the audience is left wondering what will happen when Bob learns the truth. Although the two lead actors, Minnie Driver and David Duchovny are brilliant, it is the fantastic supporting cast that make this movie extra special. Bonnie Hunt as Grace's friend, Megan, is excellent, as is James Belushi as Megan's husband, who both do their best to cope with their ever increasing offspring. David Alan Grier is amazing as Bob's friend Charlie, who is determined to get Bob back into the dating game. But it is the four male senior citizens, especially Carroll O'Connor as Grace's grandfather and Robert Loggia as Grace's great-uncle who steal the show. This is a movie to watch when you're feeling a little down. It's guaranteed to put a smile back on your face.

Simple, Lovely, warm
I am not usually a fan of romantic films, yet this is simply lovely. Human, tragic, beautiful. From the beginning you're imersed into the characters lives and feel the horrible dichotomy of pain and joy involved in awaiting a transplant. You know someone has to die for you to live, it is explored in a subtle and lovely way in this film. A film it is easy to overlook because it is just a simple, low key old fashioned film. Character and story driven, with lovely understated performances from everyone. If you like simple, emotional, thoughtful films then this is for you.

AN EXCELLENT FILM ...
I saw this film at the cinema and really enjoyed it and decided it was one that I would like a video of in order to be able to watch again when the mood took me. The story is very poignant but also great fun - especially because of the Italian element to it. Surprisingly, Minnie Driver is very good and suited the part perfectly. With 'Enchanted April' and 'Now, Voyager' at the very top of my list, this film is definitely in my Top 10 'Watch Again' collection.

An enjoyable light romance.
I really enjoyed this film. The characters were well developed and the story well played out. Possibly the language was a little rough in places; it's a pity that happens as it spoils films that could otherwise be A1. In the meantime, I'll shut out the rough patches and make the most of some pleasant viewing.

PARFAIT

I have viewed "Return to Me" many times because it is a film with HEART - no pun intended. The two stars David Duchovny and Minnie Driver give greatly sensitive jobs, he with his delivery of lines and his final breakdown after his wife's death, and in a restaurant scene with a date from hell; she with her labored breathing as a patient awaiting a heart for a transplant, and as the waitress in the same restaurant scene. All other performances are, also, first rate. Carroll O'Connor in this his final film uses an Irish accent to great affect, and is a worry-wort as a caring Grandfather who ends up with only a granddaughter heart-transplant patient. Robert Loggia, always a terrific actor, was never better nor more endearing. His laughter in one card-playing scene where he names all the Italian (most Italian-American) singers and Italian composers is very infectious as he laughs from deep down in the diaphragm. His buddies are forced to laugh with him - it is just too good a moment. One of my favorite supporters is Bonnie Hunt. She co-wrote the screenplay, directed the film and is aces as an actress of non-anticipation. Her scenes with another great supporter of this film who plays her husband, James Belushi, are terrific and funny. (Only one odd moment: When they're bowling and, perhaps the best line deliverer in the film, Marianne Muellerleile, makes a responsive gesture to Bob's bowling dedication to Grace - looked anticipated by Ms. Hunt, who is probably prettier and lovelier than she may believe she is.) Co-writer, Don Lake, adds a hysterical character portrayal of Ralph in one scene of the film. The supporting actors playing Wally and Emmett both give highly nuanced performances, as does mellifluence voiced Brian Howe as Mike. I found it a bit odd how David Duchovny did not relate well to Brian's character, however. Brian did beautifully in the scene that was shot 20 times but ended up using the first take. It almost seems as though Duchovny is intimidated by Howe for some reason. You be the judge! I have seen the film over 35 times. It feels like a comfortable old shoe. The screen family becomes my own every time I see it. It is a feel good movie which is well-written, well-directed, well-cast and well-acted. I don't want to leave out the performances of several actors. Here goes: David Alan Grier as Charles Johnson and friend of Bob's is right-on terrific. Dick Cusack as Mr. Bennington is quite good. Holly Wortell as Marsha, the date from hell, is so good, that I keep watching that scene again & again to watch the hysterical ensemble acting, though, the camera is seldom off of her, the instigator. Joey Gian is perfect as the singer. He wrote two songs for the film and sings them and 2 standards including the title song. Now, to Joely Richardson: I believe that her short role needed to steep more time with D. Duchovny in order to seem more organic. She did well, but it didn't flow in the same way as all other integral supporting players seemed to come off more familiar with one another. I do not blame her ability as an actress, I blame the situation which probably didn't afford her the opportunity to be on the set relating with Bob, more (& Charlie). One of my favorites lines at the beginning is when she tells Bob in his tux, "You look so cute!" And he responds, "You spend all day with an ape, what do you expect!" The child who played Tyler did a great job. Also, Patrick Hunt who played Danny. I highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to see a serious subject/feel good film.

One of the best love stories I have seen lately. The beginning makes you cry, the latter part makes you laugh and the end makes you jump for joy. Minnie Driver is a joy to watch. Smart but vulnerable and the entire cast including Bonnie Hunt, the director score a sixer. Great film. Watch it with the family.
