Affordable Soil Meter, Light Meter Not Very Useful
I'm very new to owning houseplants, I tried my hand at it back in college and it did not go well. I bought this to help me keep an eye on the soil conditions, as I feel that my previous failures have mostly stemmed from underwatering and lack of fertilizer/nutrients. After experimenting the moisture, nutrient and pH functions of the meter appear to work very well. I will still likely use my finger to confirm the moisture readings as I know overwatering can be a common issue as well, and one of my plants already has root rot (came to me in this condition), but this meter definitely gives me some peace of mind to be more confident in my watering schedule than I would be by just feel alone. Paired with a plant care app on my phone (Plant Parent: Plant Care Guide) I think I'm getting the hang of things. My only complaint is that the light meter doesn't seem very precise (what are the numbers on the dial anyway, lux, foot candles? I can't tell) and I've only been able to get it to go from 0/dark in any type of indirect lighting to the max reading when moving it to direct light. I've never been able to get any readings in between. Fortunately there is a really good phone app that measures foot candles (Lux Light Meter Pro on Android) and some guides online (House Plant Journal) that tell you about how many ftc each plant species needs to survive or thrive so that has helped fill in where this device is deficient. It would be wonderful if the light sensor was more sensitive but for the price, I feel like this was still a pretty good deal and I'm glad I bought it.

came apart after just a few uses...
I've used this perhaps 5 times total since I purchased a little more than 2 months ago. Today I stuck it in the ground, the moisture meter registered the soil as wet, and when I pulled it back out of the ground, the tip had come off in the soil. The meter of course no longer functions. The soil was very moist, so I can think of no other explanation for it coming apart other than it was just made poorly. And of course I'm beyond the 30 day return window. Really aggravating.

Easy to use and the probe is more robust than other brands.
I wanted a 4-in-1 meter and this was the brand that worked best for me. I took it out of the box and tried it out on several of my plants and it worked great. Two other brands I tried had thicker probes that had "grooves" near the tip and dirt was building up in them after only one reading and one of those other brands broke after one use. This probe does not have those grooves and seems far more robust to me.

Not Easy to Read, plus deceptive switch
I only wanted to know the soil PH, and the indicator for that reading is right at the bottom of the dial. It shows up as a line, rather than a dial. Perhaps having 4 uses for one tool might not be a good thing. You have to read the quick start guide (aka manual) to understand how to use this. Since this has 4-in-1 modes, you will need to move the switch to get the correct reading. There are 4 switch settings. Reading the manual you will find it has a useful list in the back with plant PH info. and what plants require for each setting. An online version of this would be helpful. I tried testing the PH of rainwater collected in a rain barrel a few hours earlier and it said it was 5 to 6 PH.
