Star Wars: Frames

Another 40th Birthday present for my Star Wars mad hubby. This is a great grown up present for a Star Wars fan. These are two coffee table books that come in a great presentation box. They look great, and the still/frames are stunning and all selected by Mr Lucas himseld apparently. But beware, this is extremely large and very heavy!

What a huge book, the sheer weight of it alone is something to behold. The last 2 movies in the series 'Attack Of The Clones' & 'Revenge Of The Sith' were shot in digital and you can see the difference in the quality of the images from these movies compared to the rest. It is obvious that from the sleeve notes that a great deal of time & effort was put into producing this wonderful offering. A must have for any Star Wars fan although not sure whether I would have paid the full RRP of £100, so thank you amazon.

I would say that it is an excellent gift for a mature Star Wars fan, however I would have preferred if there a few fewer frames as it though 2 to a page was too much and should have been more selective in their choosing of their frames, but this is not detracting from the fact that it is still an excellent present.

I, like most fans, couldn't afford the first edition signed by Lucas, so I was so excited to see it released in this format at an affordable price. Like the forward mentions, these books are in part a tribute to all the work that went into these movies, including artists, cinematographers, and so on. They are key moments personally picked by George Lucas, individual frames that he felt best tell the story, reveal the best lighting, the best angles, expressions etc. I feel, after having bought so many "making ofs" and cross sections and other reference books, it was refreshing to just see selected frames, nothing added or taken away, no retouching and the like, just key frames that tell the stories I fell in love with over the years. You won't get any insights into the movies, no anecdotes or commentaries, just the pictures you saw on the big screen in a format you can hold in your hand and stare at as long as you like. If you're a fan, you love these books.

The package is lovely on this set of books that are crammed full of information and photographs about every Star Wars movie. It is a large item and rather heavy. The box containing the books is gorgeous as are the contents. The perfect gift for any Star Wars fan.

I love getting to see the detail in Star Wars films and this book gives me a change to enjoy the frames and explore the detail The first delivery was damaged on the spine but the replacement was perfect and the presentation is spot on.

Was really excited about this book and looking forward to receiving it, sadly I was very disappointed with both the quality and many of the stills chosen within the two volumes. I feel that this book was printed cheaply and sold at a high price, the fact they have had to put an excuse as to why the print is so poor sums it up really and if you're happy to accept this lame excuse then that's your prerogative, I worked in the publishing industry for over 20 years and can tell its a cheap print run! Pictures of the dune sea is a perfect example no clear crisp lines jut fuzzy blurry edges and as for the classic pose of Luke looking out to the two moons of tatooine - shocking quality shame on you G Lucas using excuses to cover up bad printing, if this was so then all the foyer photos, autograph photos and previous publication that are out there would also be of bad quality, which they are not!!!! Now to the pictures, hmmm a somewhat strange choice on some of these, the Hans Solo ones for instances from epi IV. Really? George must have some beef with Ford or there's a private joke going on there. There as some classic photos and some of the layout works well but there is also a lot of very bad choices with some good/classic photos missed out completely (don't think there's a decent pic of Zam Wesell , and order 66 was a collection of poorly chosen pics. To me it looks like he either got his p.a.'s to help him out and they didn't care what they put in or he got bored half way through used auto fill, either way it comes across as a bad attempt at an aldis photobook (in fact the print quality of said photobook is far superior to this tome!!) Now it could be said that maybe I have received a badly printed copy and other people have got decent copies with sharp clean lines and no blurs/smudge pictures and if so I stand corrected about the quality, but aside from that the picture choices are still somewhat questionable, finally, just a personal preference, but hated the special edition versions and sadly this uses photos from those versions including Obi Wans changed house- prefer the real physical house in Tunisia than the painted cgi, and the ultimate sacriledge... replacing the head of that fine actor Sebastian Shaw with that of Hayden Christensen in the final scenes of rotj!!!! at a rrp of £100.00 it's a lot and even £60.00 seems much considering its print quality,it should be priced between £25.00 and £30.00 Sadly i have returned my copy but i guess die hard /hardcore fans will love it no matter what

I pre-ordered this book(s) and just received my issue today (11/06/2013) It arrived, just like the other reviewers stated...packaged in 3 boxes. The outer Amazon.com box with air packs for void fill, the StarWars.com store box and an internal box with corner foam padding for protection of the heavy-duty slip case box. I was impressed with the heft of the total set. Being a fan of the Original Trilogy, and who enjoyed the Prequel Trilogy, I found the images in the Original Trilogy book to be far superior than the Prequel in quality and presentation. The Original Trilogy utilized more in-frame sets and effects as CGI was not used during the time these films were made. The models of the ships, the set design, exterior locations and the visual effects were state-of-the-art and each frame in the Original Trilogy book shows the distinct differences between in-frame effects and filming to CGI use. The Prequel Trilogy utilized CGI effects sets and models in favor of in-frame effects. The look of the Prequel Trilogy is great, but as the book progresses from Episode I to Episode III, you can see the layering of the various elements used to comprise the frame. The layering is missed by the eye in a moving frame, but is caught in the still frame. This does not reduce the enjoyment or the awesomeness of this set. It just highlights the fact that CGI should be used to compliment the in-frame effects and not drive the filming process. Overall, I am very impressed with my purchase. A under $100.00 for the set, it is well worth it. I saw when Lucas was preparing these books that he was also doing the definitive FRAMES set, which is also sold on Amazon.com. If you can not afford the $2000.00 for that set, this is a great alternative. Originally, I heard this 2-book set was to be about the $300.00 to $400.00 price range, so when I saw it for under $100.00, I knew I had to have it. I would love to see book sets like this for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The forthcoming Hobbit Trilogy also. This set just set the standard for collectability for me when it comes to Art-style book sets. I recommend this set if you love Star Wars, and want something that will forever leave you in awe.

Un gran libro, imprescindible para los amantes de Star Wars. Recoge cerca de 1300 fotografias de las 6 películas, en formato panorámico. Para los que quieran realizar algún diorama con figuras a 1:18 o con maquetas, es perfecto para no perder ni un detalle y procurar reproducirlo con la mayor veracidad posible. Para aquellos que quieran comprarlo, que miren primero si tienen sitio para guardarlo y que el "paquete" de los dos libros, pesa cerca de 12 kg.

Es una joya fotográfica de las escenas de las películas. Me hubiera encantado que trajera más textos / pies de foto, ya sea de descripción de las escenas, datos curiosos o algo así. Pero de cualquier manera es un gran documento visual para los fans. ¡Fantástico!

Comprato per un regalo ad un super-fan, ho pienamente soddisfatto chi lo ha ricevuto. I due volumi molto grandi e un po' pesanti, raccolgono i frame selezionati dallo stesso George Lucas. Un libro fotografico completo molto ben rilegato con immagini splendide che immortalano scene delle prime due trilogie. Apparato di note in inglese. Imballo dei libri in plastica a sua volta rappresentativo del mondo di Star Wars. Un must assoluto per i veri appassionati di questo magico mondo.

Vraiment deux livres qui reprennent des photos magnifiques des 6 films. Un premier livre sur les films I, II et III avec 2 photos par pages en TRÈS grand format et d'une qualité superbe. Le deuxième livre sur les films IV, V et VI qui est comme le première livre. On vie avec ces deux livres SUPERBES! Seule problème, l'emballage de amazon est catastrophique. Mon carton est arrivé détruit et l'emballage carton des deux livres est abimés. Mais les deux livres n'avaient rien. Plutôt passer par un autre commerçant pour cet article d’exception.
