One Ted Falls Out of Bed: A Counting Story : Donaldson, Julia, Currey, Anna: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Has all the elements of a great bedtime book - We have enjoyed reading bedtime stories to our son since he was three months old. He's now approaching two years old and a total bookworm. All this to say we have amassed a mini library in the house of a the wide variety of books aimed at different age groups and there seems to be a formula for a successful bedtime book 1) it should have an easy rhyming scheme (our son loves to finish sentences in books and those with good rhyming styles help him remember the word), 2) have strong visuals that aren't too garish for a toddler (I realize realistic looking character are a winner), 3) the story should end with something fun e.g "..and a big kiss! or a "Night! Night!", 4) there needs to be an element of repetition, either with actions, sounds or images and lastly 5) they should be should be fun and engaging for both parent and toddler! This book delivers on all of the above. We initially borrowed it from our local library but after renewing it 5 times I realized it was time to buy the book! It is a firm top 10 favorite with our son. The book charts a teddy bears adventure through his owners bedroom one evening when he accidentally falls out of bed. He races cars, has tea with dolls, flys balloons and gazes at stars just to name a few adventures. With each new adventure your counting from 1 to 10 and back down again until the "one Ted who fell out of bed" is back in bed snuggled up to his owner. It's a cute story, easy to read before bed (not too long/short) and has a little educational element with the counting. Borrow from your local library to decide what you think first but I'm sure it will also be a bedtime favorite of your little one too! Review: Lovely book - This was a favourite bedtime story for my kids. I took great enjoyment reading it to them over many years. I purchased this book for a friend and her son. Good value for money, it’s always worth a browse on desertcart when looking for a book at a good price.

Lovely counting story
As you'd expect from Julia Donaldson, this book is wonderful to read out loud with a child. It tells of the adventures of a teddy who falls out of bed, but all in rhyme and cleverly also counting up to ten (and back again). I'm not sure who enjoys it more - me or my children (I suspect it's actually me!)

Another wonderful book from Julia Donaldson
Another wonderful book from Julia Donaldson. My little boy was two and a quarter when we discovered this at the local library and months later he still likes to read it every day. A lovely counting story with lots of scope for funny actions (driving cars and sipping tea!). The illustrations by Anna Currey are wonderful. Can't recommend highly enough.

Just lovely
This is a very good bedtime book for toddlers and it's a firm favourite with all concerned. It's a quick read, its very engaging for them and the illustations are lovely too. It ends on a gentle note so very good for 'last book before bed'. Excellent all round. I also highly recommend 'The Bear Snores On' before you read this one. Good night time reading combo.

Board book
The illustrations are enchanting, but not much text to match them. On some pages there are just 3-4 words. The story itself is ok, as it teaches the child to count.

Beautiful book
Such beautiful illustrations and the story is very very cute also! My 10 month old loved it at the time we purchased and still absolutely loves this book at the age of one and a half

Great Book
My 2 & 1/2 year old this book, after originally borrowing it from the library. It's a board book, which my little one find easier to turn the pages. Lovely pictures and you can just imagine what their toys are doing when we all go to sleep.... A great book for up to pre-school age.

J'ai acheté ce petit livre pour initier ma fille à l'anglais. Dessins très jolis histoire idéale car elle raconte ce que tout doudou a déjà vécu: tomber du lit!

My husband and I started reading our son this book when he was 11 months, he is nearly 2 and he still loves it. As parents, we like it too. It is a great length, has beautiful (watercolor?) illustrations, nice language and is generally much more pleasant to read than most other books for toddlers. Additionally, the fact that it rhymes and counts from one to ten means that it is an easy story for me to remember and repeat to him on occasions where we are waiting but don't have the book with us.

I really like Donaldson's book and decided to buy it for my 18-month-old son and as soon as I received I was impressed by the beautiful rhymes and colours. Unfortunately my son never wants to read it, I really cannot understand why. Maybe it's not suitable for him, I'll have to wait a bit.
