These plugs fit pretty much any hole; tight, loose, or mysterious. They come in a thick plastic bag that lets out a puff of rubbery dust when opened. Weirdly satisfying. The dust keeps them from sticking together, so it’s actually a plus. After some hands-on trial and error, I’ve figured out which plugs go where around the house. Surprisingly fun. If you’ve got holes that need attention (and let’s be honest, you do), grab a bag. Cheap, useful, oddly enjoyable.

I'm working on a motorcycle gas tank where the coating inside failed, leaving rusty patches and bits of flaking coating. I decided to fill the tank with a strong, alkaline cleaner (Purple Power) to help soften the coating and also to use as an electrolyte for electrolytic rust removal. Yes, a new gas tank (or a new bike) would be easier. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. Yes, I do this to myself every single time. In order to fill the tank I had to plug the hole for the petcock. I measured the size and made sure this set had one that would work. I tapped it into place with a rubber mallet and so far it has made a very secure, leak-free seal. The rubber is relatively firm so an opening that is irregular may not get sealed effectively. The hole for the sending unit in my tank is like this. There is a plug that fits and is nice and tight when tapped into place, but it is not leak free. This isn't the fault of the plug. I'm asking it to seal around an irregular opening in thin sheetmetal, and it just isn't designed for that. However it is something that you should know about if you're buying this kit because not all the stoppers will work to plug all openings. In my case, I'll use the sending unit or a block-off plate and o-ring to temporarily plug the hole. For the price, this is a useful kit to have in my toolbox. After this, I'll probably use some of the stoppers to plug screw holes when I paint parts. They've already paid for themselves with this gas tank.
