Lady Chatterley's Lover (Wordsworth Classics)

Good read

I was so happy with this book, I saw the film and found this edition which looked gorgeous. I was pleased to find that the spine is pink! And the book is in great condition.

Somehow this book seemed far more exciting when it was banned, and I hid under the blanket as a thirteen year old to read it, away from the prying eyes of my mother, than as an adult now. There is something about forbidden fruits that makes us want to have them. However, it is worth reading if only to compare the narrative to the numerous films being made about this famous story. I haven't seen one film yet that really captures the characters of the time, their inner torment about their situation, or the real conflict of their desires as portrayed so superbly by Lawrence. Definitely one to read, if only to find out what all the fuss is about!

Great classic literature. Touches far more on the social divide of the times, than the steamy side it became known for. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Still a good read/story

quite old fashioned so found difficult to read but trying to read the classics and this is one. Print is tiny in this book and book is cheaply made but for price you cant complain too much. Just not one I will ever read again.

以前持っていたが、どこへやったやら。原本なら字句に相違はないはず。で、再購入した。 日本では、翻訳した箇所が部分的に消されていたので、原文を一生懸命読解したものだ。 辞書にない単語は前後の文脈から判断して、情景を想像した。楽しい時期であった。

Wordsworth Classics nos ofrece una edición con una estupenda relación calidad-precio de una novela que es necesaria en la estantería de cualquier bibliófilo. Me quedo con una estrella por el internileado (para mi gusto es demasiado pequeño, lo que cansa un poco).

Lady Chatterley's Lover novel was not allowed to be published until 1960, nearly 30 years after Lawrence' death. We would read both the book and watch the movie today and wonder - what's the problem? Yes, there is sex in this book and movie. As, with most of us, there is in real life. But this is much more than the titillation of sex for entertainment. It is a story that has its background in the harsh life for almost all but the noble in post WWI England. And it is a story where love tries to cross that insurmountable boundary in English society. Lady Chatterley is a noble woman, who winds up with a crippled, shattered noble man as her husband following WWI. She respects him, but never had true, romantic love for him. He has a vast estate, upon which lives a virile gamekeeper under his hire. This man is a commoner, but has intelligence, was an officer in the army, and has a kindness towards nature that touches Lady Chatterley, married to a man whose emotions for beauty, tenderness, and the weaker things of nature are as dead as his legs. The lady and the gamekeeper find a bond, a love, and that is the story here. Watch it. It is one of the most beautiful love movies you will ever see.

very good read

I bought the books from this post because I loved the covers, but instead of the ones on the pictures in the ad I got these ugly copies (see photo) that are worse than the old copies I already have at home. VERY disappointed, don't want these ones.
