Fair price, infinite fun, highly recommend
Wow, this thing is super fun. I play guitar and bass and sing, so drumming was the last thing to conquer. I’d still prefer a real dedicated drummer but this is super intuitive and customizable. I think the pads are nice and give good response, but this is my first and probably only finger drum pad I’ll play, so take my opinion with a grain of salt to all the pros out there. I have needed to open it and clean out the pads before, but I host an open mic at a beach bar using it, so be weary. It has a great sound live! In my opinion, I would add two things. I would split the snare pad in half but keep its function. Sometimes the snare roll can’t keep up, but it does a good job. Second would be a looper that could be programmed to a specific length and tempo whilst playing. It has premade melodies and drum loops in the “sessions” section but very few are great imo. Makes for great practice though. Overall, this is a neat instrument with nearly infinite customization and potential for creativity. Or if ya like farting around making music with your buddies. Well worth it

This box is serious business!!!!!
The built in rechargable battery powered sound system makes this an incredibly usefull stand alone instrument. The 2.5 inch speaker sounds and feels realistic. With good quality headphones the sound is bombastic. Fantastic stereo effects. Yamaha makes some of the best and most recorded drums. As a stand alone digital percussion library I am going to get much use out of it. For song writing, recording and performing I cannot think of any type of percussion workstation that will suit my needs better than this. Hit the switch and in less than 5 seconds of boot time you are ready to rock. The Reggae, Afro, Cuban samples/kits make this a must have for me. Now if I could find a case and Roland type stand adapter..............

Amazing instrument with one huge flaw
I love almost everything about this finger-drum pad. The pads are super responsive and the layout of the pads is perfect for playing fast beats. It is so much fun to play. The internal speaker is quite good and it is a blast to be able to take this thing anywhere and play drums in a convincing way without a drum kit (of course you can connect it to an amp or headphones if you want it to sound better). The one huge problem I have with this instrument is that it runs out of charge incredibly quickly. If I play it continuously, starting with a full charge, it shuts down because of low battery within 1/2 an hour. Admittedly it charges up very quickly (10 min or so), but an instrument like this should be playable for several hours on a single charge. I thought the first unit I ordered might be defective, so I returned it and got another one, but the replacement also shuts down very quickly. I am going to keep the instrument because it is so much fun to play, but this is a huge design flaw that Yamaha really should have remedied before releasing the unit. (It should be noted that you can play the instrument plugged into a power source, so the short battery life does not preclude using it in live performance.) A couple other small criticisms are that the power input should be USB C, not micro-USB, and that it would be great if the machine could perform some type of quantization for those of us who are not adept finger drummers. But I would still have given the instrument 5 stars because it is just so much fun, were it not for the battery issue.

I love this thing, needs better connectivity though
if you know you know, and this little puppy is AMAZING for real. I would put in LR plugs but that is about the only reason I dropped off a star. Better connectivity would be nice. For what the device is, the world awesome comes to mind.

Fantastic finger drum!
Easy to use and fun to play for experienced drummers, newbs, or kids. Battery life is good and it has a solid pro feel to it. Pads are very responsive and the built in speaker is more than adequate. Extremely portable too. I'm happy with my purchase.

A blast to play
I'm mainly learning piano, but I figured this would give me a way to develop rhythm and more finger coordination while I watch TV at night. With an earphone so as not to disturb my wife, which mostly works although she can hear me tapping on the rubber pads. But its ok if watching some mindless tv show. Using free youtube videos I've already learned a bunch of basic beats and fills. I'm starting to think I could even incorporate this into certain piano pieces, maybe using left hand to add a few beats or fills here and there in certain pop songs for emphasis. (For example, Hotel California has a bunch of places where the main instrument pauses for a couple beats and drums take over for a fill so in that case you could use both hands on the finger drums for a moment). The best thing about this is the built-in sounds, which are fun and have a lot of variety, and there's something to be said for hitting the power button and get up and running in 5 seconds. Most other units I looked at required external computer software to make sounds. Overall, very happy with this purchase.

So much fun! Great sounds and a very intuitive layout - starting with the one hand technique they suggest is surprisingly effective and easy to learn (and I’m a guitarist, ha ha). More sounds than you will need. Lots of mainstream rock/jazz drum kits and a huge slew of electronic and traditional sounds. There will be some sounds you will ask “why did they even put these on here?” (Human Beatbox stuff, in my case) and maybe some silly gratuitous stuff, but really there is a huge wealth of every percussion sound you can think of. I do wish the manual was a little more in-depth, and I hope to god these pads do not lose sensitivity, as gear in this price tier can sometimes do.
