Q: Are these thermostatic or straight mixers- sick of replacing thermostat cartridges in an area with very hard water....

This is thermostatic but not great in controlling the temperature. There is a point very sensitive where the water gets straight too hot or lukewarm when turned back so very difficult to regulate if your desired temperature is around that spot .

Q: is it easy to replace a mixer at a later date. I hope this is one of those that once installed the top bit (the mixer) can easy be swapped it required

Yes. My pump is behind tiles. Only the switch gear - lever for overhead and separate shower head is visible. This bread and butter for a plumber

Q: Will this work with a salamander water pump. Plumber has stated it must be a low pressure unit due to the pump being used

I have this unit working with a 3bar pump no problems I believe the max bar is even higher than this
