Sentences for translation with a key for the different grammar sections would be a useful addition.
Concise but containing all vocabulary required for everyday purposes although the emphasis seems to be on the school environment. Clearly presented. Sentences for translation with a key for the different grammar sections would be a useful addition.

Really helpful!
I have had a bit of a problem trying to learn Irish grammar, especially as I was never taught proper grammar in English, and so had no reference points when it came to noun cases and declensions and the like. I have Teach Yourself Irish grammar you really need to know, and while this is an excellent book, it does kind of throw you in at at the deep end a little, but Collins easy learning Irish grammar explains things simply and clearly, there are "What is?" sections at the start of each section e.g. "what is a Noun?, What is a conjunction?". These really help if you are not familiar with such terms, and are of great help to me as I am rather unfamiliar with them too. In coclusion, I would say that if you are looking for your first grammar book for learning Irish, or just one that is easier to follow, you could do much worsethan to start with this one. Incidently, although other customers may have had issues with the binding, the copy I purchased was in very good condition, so it isn't a problem endemic to this volume, just dependant on the quality of the book you purchase.

A Study of Irish Grammer: Easy Learning for One Posessing a Basic Fluency of Irish Gaelic
This is a very technical overview of an Gailge. The focus on proper grammer, syntax, and word usage is given in a way that is probably better served by someone who has a rudimentary understanding of speech in general, and the Irish language. Pronunciation is not given much attention, which will make the material very challenging for someone still in a beginner stage of learning. The different expressions of tense is well illustrated, with several examples of each tense provided. Again, it is a reference best suited for someone who has a basic fluency of Irish Gaelic, including pronunciation and the male/female word orientation and usage.

A Fine Reference Work.
For rank beginners in Irish, this book is outstanding. As a grammar text, it is lucid, concise and comes with excellent examples of the various linguistic points. It clearly indicates the intricacies of a highly complex language and - again - does so with good, recognisable examples. If you wish to come to terms with the workings of the Irish language, this volume is vital. You will not be disappointed.

I’m really disappointed in this. It’s basically just accidence (conjugations, declensions and so on). There is very little about syntax (how the language is structured). I was hoping that I would be able to use this book to help me understand better what I am practising in the Duolingo Irish course, and also to start recognising grammatical forms and sentence structures in other texts, but that doesn’t really look possible. Irish syntax can often be quite puzzling for speakers of Germanic languages (such as English), or Romance languages. I think it is much more difficult than, say, Turkish which, although structured very differently to English, is at least more obviously simple and logical. That is why I think you really do need a good reference grammar to learn Irish properly if you don’t have a teacher to explain it to you, but this isn’t it.

So why offer kindle as a format option when the damn thing is incompatible. This is the 2nd Irish language book thus has happened with today. Very frustrating. It works on IOS kindle app but very small to read on I find.
