The Elegoo Saturn 4 16k is a beast!
The Elegoo Saturn 4 16k is a beast!!!!!! I have waited about 2 weeks to do a review of this 3D printer. During that 2 weeks it has been printing constantly day and night. Firstly I have a lot of experience with 3d printers. This is my 5th in a four year period and it is without a doubt the greatest step forward in printing there has been in that time period. Why? The reasons for me are as follows. 1. The heated vat is a game changer. Heating the resin to 30c means due to the heat the resin stays more fluid and flows back faster in the tray. Also my printers are in the garage which would have meant normally having to run expensive heaters which costs a small fortune over winter. 2. The tilting Vat means as it peels itself away from the F.E.P. The vacuum from the F.E.P does not break the models supports so you get less failed prints. I have had zero fails on this printer to date. 3. The volume of resin the vat holds is awesome, it’s just about 1 litre in total, which means no topping up mid print. 4. The self levelling bed just works. Forget the drama you may have seen on some videos saying you need to level it yourself or even that you have to sand your build plate as its not flat, this is just not true, it is perfect. 5. Printing speed. I am doing prints now in 3 hours which used to take 7, 8 or even 10 hours each. 6. Resolution and detail is so good now it’s incredible. For miniatures it’s 100% as good as premium bought products. I have provided some photos and a video to show what this printer is able to do and can 100% recommend it. Also, if you are looking to get into the hobby of 3D printing this product is without doubt the easiest way to start, as it does everything for you without any issues. Its fairly priced in my opinion, and a lot of fun. Thanks for reading!

Promised so much, Thoroughly disappointed
Out of the box, this device was faulty. One of the ribbon cables for the screen were not attached. Logged ticket with customer support and got a fast response on how to fix it with handy video guide. Leads me to suspect that this is a common fault. Once I have the touch screen working, it ran a self test. This produced bangs that shook the whole machine. The hopper mechanism was installed incorrectly and was hitting the limit switch inside. How do I know this? Because once again support sent me a video guide on how to disassemble and fix it myself. Mounting the rotating arm in just the right way as to level the tilting screen was a nightmare. Eventually got there and attempted to print the Rook model supplied using Elegoos own resin and factory default settings. This produced a blob on the build plate and a blob on the FEP. 30+ calibration tiles later and still only produced a bunch of validation plates that had blooming and low details. I suspect that the hopper arm has actually damaged the limit switch. There are so many videos on social media for this device that detail how to fix manufacturing defects. Sanding the plate to make it actually flat. Adding washers to the tension screws. Ask yourself this - if you paid £500 for an other consumer device, would you expect to have to open it up and tinker to get it working? Thoroughly disappointed and wasted so much time, effort and money on this printer. If I had a one off rogue unit, I could be more forgiving but even a quick internet search reveals that these issues are common.

One of the best resin printers i've ever owned
Works great, have owned a few resin printers over the years and it's always been a little tricky to get the right enviroment as well as level the plate just right. This machine puts that old method in the bin once and for all. The self level plate does exactly what it's designed to and the heated vat keeps the resin where it should be temp wise so there is low risk of fails due to cold temps getting to the resin. The release mechanism is something i've never seen before but it works as intended and puts less stress on the build plate meaning less chance of failed prints. I've been using it for a week now constantly and had no fails and no issues with prints. It's the best resin printer i've owned to date. I do wish they would of added a handle to the lid though as one hand opening is difficult but it's a minor gripe against what overall is a great machine.

Avoid the Saturn 4 at all costs
I have been 3D printing for 8 years - both FDM and resin printers. I that time I've had several machines that have been absolutely fantastic, but not the Saturn 4 Ultra 16k. Auto bed levelling - This is very misleading as its not auto bed levelling in the way you think. You do still have to manually level the bed. Print bed - This is an overdesigned mess, the standoffs make it very difficult to clean and holds a small amount of resin after each print which overtime increases the wastage of resin when you remove them from the bed. AI detection - It has a feature that detects foreign matter in the print tank. You would think this is a useful feature but it becomes impossible to print with transparent/clear resin as it'll detect the faintest of specs of dust and it will refuse to print. There is no way to override this feature. Camera - The camera is useless without the flashlight on and I'm pretty sure cures the resin slightly which causes the supports to become difficult to remove. Print quality - The biggest issue for me. I have used well over 2kg of resin trying to calibrate and test printing miniatures and I've not had one single successful print. While some testing and calibration is required for any new 3D printer, the amount of time, energy and resin wasted with no clear issue is unacceptable for a printer at this price point.

I really like this printer (Saturn 4 16K)
I agonised over choosing an SLA printer, there are hundreds and the price range is infinite. It wasn't the resolution on this one that drew the eye, it's all the creature comforts for dealing with horrible resin. The various online reviews mentioned several things that I have actually not encountered on my July 2025 purchase, so clearly the models on sale now are improved from early releases. Since buying it's just been quietly printing without any issues, but yes, these are not a tool room lathe you have to treat them with kid gloves and run them perfectly level in ideal conditions.

Regret
Really not great. So many failed prints. I had a smaller mars which was a workhorse but I wanted bigger and faster. Now wish I kept the mars.
