The performance captures the depth of its characters—Anna’s struggle between societal expectations and her desires feels heartbreakingly real. The narrative flows at a thoughtful pace that lets you soak in the emotional stakes without rushing, making each moment weighty and meaningful. What impressed me most is how the story’s themes—love, betrayal, the constraints of society—remain so relevant today. The voice acting is rich and nuanced, bringing warmth to Levin’s sincerity and tension to Anna’s turmoil. Whether you’re revisiting Tolstoy or discovering the story for the first time, this version feels immersive, evocative, and profoundly human.

Feed your need for quality literature
I read this book 40 years ago from a library edition. This translation is much more readable (not ponderous) and the cover is beautiful. The story is ageless. This book is staying in my personal library!

Hard to love
Jumps from interesting segments to dull, boring segments. Dwells too much on Levin's farm work. Worth a look but beware.

Beautifully written poem on love, romance, and purpose - and perfect as a gift!
Read it by myself - a masterpiece. Then bought this particular edition for the most beautiful girl I know as a birthday gift - made her happy, so I am happy with the purchase, too. Tolstoy knew life, intimately.

This is a classic' of course and I have rated it with regard to my enjoyment rather than its merits. Although Anna Karenina is a main part of the story, to me it was a comment on Russian society of that time and the beginnings of the revolutionary ideas. It abounded with philosophies regarding the rural economy; the over indulged elite, war etc. the romances running through did give relief. I found some of it 'tedious' and hard going but nevertheless appreciated why it is a classic. Contrary to popular belief, I thought Anna was a rather self centred woman.

The book is of course an incredible drama with wonderful characters, however the book seems to have been Google translated (or worse) and only the initial chapters have been gerbier and edited. The English grammar is so incorrect more and more frequently as you progress through the book that is impossible to be sure from a sentence who did what to do and how many of them there were. I habe up at about 40% through the book because the frequency of unintelligible phrases had increased so much that I was guessing the meaning more often than not. This book is a classic, written for normal people to read and when the grammar is OK, the book reads perfectly. However this is unfortunately very difficult to recommend as the classic story is lost to auto translation( I expect). Find another version of the book!
