I custom fabricated my own deck gate to keep grandchild & grand-dog contained. Since I'd already decided on D&D Technologies' MagnaLatch, I thought I'd try their self closing hinges. Though heavy duty, I'm not excited about them being plastic. I've seen photos on line where UV rays lighten their color over time. But hey, at least they won't rust! The plastic snap-on screw covers have a glossy finish that doesn't match the hinge. What's up with that? I like the larger diameter self threading screws that were provided. To keep the hinges from wandering about my aluminum posts during installation, I clamped them into place. Using a 1/4" drill bit & the holes in the hinge as my template, I made a very shallow indentation in my post. This provided a recess for a much smaller drill bit, located in the exact center of each hole. The screws went in much easier than the instructions & the hinges never moved! I did not reply to the "Durability" review because they've only been installed for a few days. I'm paying close attention to what the great ball in the sky is gonna do to the finish. All in all, the hinges came excellently packaged, all parts were there & they installed very easily.

The replacement hinge fit perfectly. My gate swings as it should after being damaged in a snowstorm.

I've used these on over 30 gates that I've made for my cable railings. Can't go wrong.

There is no way for me to detemine was was on my fence so I took measurments and this is as close as I could find. The only difference with old and knew is that only 2 of 8 holes line up. This was enough to get the hinge started and made it much easier to line up. All I had to do is drill all the holes I needed while the 2 screws that lined up held the hinge in place. Super easy to install and adjust.

We have heavy gates and after years of wear and inclement weather it was time to change out our self closing gate hinges. Initially I thought I’d have to reach out to the company who installed them but simply searched on Amazon and found the exact replacement parts. They are easy to install, especially when replacing existing hinges. They are also easy to adjust the tension to your desired strength.

These hinges are perfect and auto close my gate. I really like the adjustable tension feature and they can be adjusted after installation. These are well made, sturdy, and look good too!

excellent hinges, a perfect replacement for failed original hinges. they fit great, close the gate nicely. Did not have to drill new holes as they all lined up with the original holes, making installation easy.

I purchased these D&D Technologies TruClose self-closing gate hinges in April 2025 for two gates on our pool deck, expecting them to provide reliable self-closing functionality for safety. Unfortunately, they have not performed as advertised. The hinges do not maintain proper tension, no matter how much I adjust them. They fail to self-close the gates consistently, which is extremely concerning for a pool area where safety is critical. Both hinges broke within just a few months of light residential use, rendering the gates unsafe and requiring me to look for a better alternative. Given that these are marketed specifically for metal gates and safety applications, I expected far more durability and functionality. I cannot recommend these hinges for pool gates or any situation where reliable self-closing is essential.

The idea and the quality are both very good. But I have a sag issue over time, which I’m not able to correct.

Nice and easy to install. A bit creeky since there are springs and plastic. Able to handle the 50 pound gate. Nice light and easy self close. Recommended for small projects.
