Sekonic L-308X-U Flashmate Light Meter (401-305)

Being a headshot photographer this is a must have piece of kit. Easy to set up and use. Great accurate lighting results when using it. A massive time saver. Feels a little lightweight but the fact that is works consistently well makes it great value for money. Highly recommend.

I have been a hobby photographer for a long time. I dabbled in landscapes, bird, and nature photography. Sometimes I would get nice photos and most of the time I was like, what am I doing wrong? I work at a school so occasionally I would shoot games or practice just to practice and expand what I normally photograph.. I was then asked to photograph the senior class group photo. I never liked the photos but they seemed to be happy with them. This year I was asked to shoot all sports, indoors and out. I have never shot indoors with any light set ups before. I am practicing like crazy and I am not at all happy with any of my work. I then decided to by the SeKonic L-308X-U flash mate Light Meter as my final piece of equipment. Game Changer! Why have I never used a light meter before this? I was intimidated by them. I learned this very fast because I mainly shoot in manual mode so I am familiar with the exposure triangle. Now I am blown away and I am so excited to get out there and create. For me it was easy to use and figure out. Accurate because I have way better exposures that I have ever have before. Expensive yes, but worth it.

This is a great inexpensive light meter. I primarily photograph outdoor scenes and this light meter has never caused me to shoot a bad photo. It has always proven to give me better shots than I got with my Nikon D-300 internal light meter. Yes, the internal light meter worked but, fixing the shot later in post was almost always necessary. When I purchased this light meter that all ended because my exposure was always right. It can be set in either half stops or one third stops depending on how you shoot your photos. If at any point I need a new light meter or want a higher level light meter it will be a Sekonic brand. I also purchased a clip-on cap for the sensor that helps you get a better measurement of flash lighting on a subject. This meter also measure reflective light as well as falling light on the subject. Being an outdoor photographer, measuring the falling on my subject has been the best means of getting an accurate measurement of the light on my subject. This is a great first light meter and may be the only one you will ever need to purchase.

No more guesswork. The time savings is worth the cost, which is high for a meter as far as basic meters go. But this one has some great additional features and even in basic wireless flash mode is a huge time saver. I put off having one for years and wish I hadn’t. Easy to use works every time.

Being a Professional Photographer, I am very particular about how thing add up. I have been a photographer for more years than I can remember (Almost) but I decided to finally buy a "Simple and Accurate" light meter. It dose not matter what type of subjects you care to shoot, I assure you that this all the light meter you need!!! This meter will do what ever you want to do. I use all manual flash units, because I want each light to stay where I set it. Light is cumulative, so if you set up "EACH LIGHT" to do a specific thing, and you are using several lights, you need to know what each light is adding to the scene, and then you need to know what "ALL THE LIGHTS" are doing to complete the final shot. This meter is not only easy to use, it is very accurate and makes the entire shoot go "EXTREMELY FAST"!!! As I get older...time becomes more important, and this wonderful little meter really is "THE TICKET" for me. I will say that I also got a grip, or cover, for mine that is red in color and soft to the touch. I think the cover (Or Grip...As Amazon calls it) was over priced, however I wanted one, so what can I say. OH WELL!!! If you want to meter for incident light, ambient light, or for flash, then you will love this meter. Take it from me, (Mr. Picky) this is all the meter you will "EVER NEED"..."NO MATTER WHAT YOU SHOOT"!!! Hope you take stock in what I have said, because I took the time to write this "FOR YOU"!
