I bought this vortex mixer in order to better mix the paints I use for tabletop miniature gaming. Some of the vortex mixers I saw had smaller tops that seemed specifically modeled for the scientific applications this mixer is used for, such as test tubes. This was a concern and why I was attracted to this particular model. I use Vallejo, P3, Citadel, and Warcolours paints most often so I have a wide variety of container shapes that I need to be compatible with a mixer. This vortex mixer is a cylinder about 6 inches tall and 4 inches across with three rubber suction cups on the bottom. I use it on a wooden table and it was very stable and quieter than I expected. The top is made of soft rubber, is about 2 1/2 inches across, round, and slightly concave and fits anything that I would ever need to mix. Craft paints, paint pots, and dropper bottles fit really well with room to spare. The motor is plenty powerful enough for any of the paint containers I regularly use. It even mixes a full 200ml large bottle of Vallejo Surface Primer, although I had to mix it cap down because the bottle is so big it presses the top of the vortex mixer such that it can't move properly. The first thing I tried to mix was a very separated bottle of Vallejo Brassy Brass metallic paint. It was so separated you could easily see the pigment and the medium as two layers. I held the paint dropper down on the mixer for about 15 seconds and the paint was completely mixed. Better yet the paint was smooth and without the bubbles you sometimes see from vigorously mixed paints. Most paints require only 8 to 10 seconds. I highly recommend this vortex mixer for hobby applications. It produces a well mixed paint without bubbles effortlessly and will save precious time that is better spent gaming.

I bought this to help mix hobby paints (for miniature painting) and this works excellent. The "on-demand" function can be a little finicky but the continuous mode easily makes up for that. The top rubber piece is a good size so I can shake the bottles in any direction. The unit stayed cool through dozens of bottles ("testing" and playing around). Noise wise it's ok. I previously was using an attachment on a drill to shake paint but my wife does Zoom calls in the same room and that was way to loud. With this unit, while she can hear it still, the people on her call do not. Overall it's built like a tank and I'm very happy with this purchase.

I hated to use the Robart paint shaker I have for my liquid watercolor paints: time consuming to strap in bottle, loud, slow working and with a bad track record for durability. I have not had this vortex mixer for long, but have been very pleased with how well and easily it works with my Dr. Ph Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolors in one ounce bottles. About 20 seconds to mix even bottles I haven't used in quite a while. I have not put any ball bearings in the bottles as it seems to work fine without them.

Looks good, it's heavy, good suction cup feet and specs say it has a motor 3x more powerful than other mini mixers that use a 5v charging brick. In reality this is a huge disappointment, pay premium price, expect decent performance. Unfortunately the motor and/or action this mixer has is weaker than any others I have tried. I contacted the company directly to mention that it was defective and they responded that I was using it incorrectly. Most of the time If I grab a bottle of paint and slap it down to mix and the device simply doesn't start. I can hear it trying to work, but it just doesn't have any power. I would have to draw my attention away from what I was working on and put the paint pot directly in the center and push down so very lightly or else it doesn't go. My only other option is to use the switch and hope it doesn't stall out when I try to mix anything. I bought this to mix miniature paints and cans of spray paints/primers and it can't reliably do either. Customer service was dismissive so for the price I would recommend buying another product from a different manufacturer. For me, this mixer is not working and is going back.
