the "moppy schlingy thing" is honestly worth the buy
I bought this a couple weeks or so before xmas and it was swiftly delivered the day after xmas. Having gotten walloped by a flu, I've been responsibly huddled in my bed while responsibly feeling sorry for myself, and have been respectfully listening to my Asian girlfriend clean my house for me. She has an Asian woman's sense of cleanliness, amped up with an OCD toward cleanliness and turbo charged with a cosmic abhorrence toward cat hair. She's thorough. Having mostly conquered the pestilence within, I assembled "that moppy schlingy thing" (say that like an Asian woman), let it charge, downloaded the app, let it map the downstairs, and then I put it into its first clean/mop cycle. What got dumped into the dirty water tank (translation: what an OCD Asian cutness didn't clean off the floor) was gross. It was humbling (not for me, I'm a guy). Honestly, this little robot is thorough, it's quiet and it's freakishly good. The app seems pretty intuitive to use, and it allowed me to actually name the floor cleaner. (My buddy Greg said that "House Slave" is extremely insensitive, so I've named it Greg instead.) Looking at the map of my house what Greg cleans, I can see how accurate the map was - dining room, kitchen, The Dojo (aka powder room), main room, etc etc are all there, and you can watch the thing clean real-time on the app. Assembling and initially setup of Greg and the system was pretty easy - I really think it helps to have the app downloaded first. Really, all I did was install the robot's tray and then plug it in, and then put the cleaner into its nook to charge. The rest was the initial robot setup (date, time, region, cleaning preferences, etc). Actual Greg suggested that I add denture cleaner (those fizzy tablets that I buy my dad but go unused apparently) to cut down on the odor from the dirty water tank. As I've gone through two full cleaning cycles, I've yet to experience this, so I might use the tablets instead in my bath tub if I start to feel crappy again. Bottom line - well worth the buy so far. My floors, a combo of hardwood and carpets have never looked so good. I've got a persian rug that was getting kind of dusty (Asian girlfriend calls it gross and in need of the dump), but I think all it needed was a good vacuuming or two. I think a daily dose of Greg will do the trick, honestly. Setup was easy, the app is intuitive and the cleaning robots are thorough and quiet. I forgot quiet. No one has aver cleaned my house and been that quiet.

Great little robot!
OK, count me in as impressed with this Deebot N79s. Only had this thing about 10 days and it works great. I did my homework first to make sure this Deebot N79s would work in the house. Read it was 3.1 inches high so I measured my two couches and they were both at 2 inches. Ordered 2 sets of 2 inch risers and now they sit at 4 inches. My coffee table sits on a low pile carpet and was only about 3 inches. Quick trip to the store to buy a set of square rubber carpet pads and solves that table problem. Wrapping the cords up so they were not on the floor to solve the problem of getting caught in the brush, done. Now I buy the Deebot N79s for only $159 on Amazon during Prime days. Arrives and set it up just fine. Being a retired computer engineer and knowing the instructions said the unit works on the 2.4G SSID band only, I test it trying to connect it up with my iPhone connected to my 5G band. And yes, it did not work as expected. So I now switch the iPhone to the 2.4G band and it connects right up and works perfect. Now I can go back to my iPhone and switch back the 5G band and it works just fine, as expected. Yeah, it cleans great just like everyone says. We have 3 short hair cats and really never vacuum the entire place. All hardwood floors except for the 2 low pile rugs a 2’x3’ small and the coffee table one, about 3’x 6’. Both these rugs had fringe on them. I simply cut the fringe off of both. They actually look better and the fringe doesn’t trap the dirt anymore. We are running this every day and the dust bin is full, we can’t believe it. So after the 5th day I break out the Swiffer Wet Jet and I wet jet the entire wood floor under everything and all corners. “OK” I say to myself, now let’s see what it picks up. After the run, the dust bin is full again! So now I vacuum the two rugs with our upright vacuum and hardly get anything in its bin. Fire up the Deebot and again the dust bin is full! Where the heck is all this stuff coming from? It fits under all the furniture and coffee table as they were raised a bit. It just barely got stuck for the first time under one section of the kitchen cabinets. This section must have been 3 inches high from the floor ;-). A simple strip of soft ½ inch self adhesive foam insulation tape stuck under the section solves that problem and you can’t even see it. Now if the unit hits that spot again it will hit the foam tape and back away. Simple fix. All I do is pick up the garbage can from the floor, move the high kitchen chairs out from the island and fire up auto mode. It goes around the island fine, through the kitchen chairs and even the dining room chairs. I would suggest you run the bot around via the remote to all places you think is may get stuck at. Now you can fix those areas so is does not happen. The app on the phone works well and you can set different times of the day for each day of the week. Although it only runs AUTO mode, I wish I could schedule EDGE mode for at least one day a week. The charging station is against the wall. I have one foot clearance on each side and two foot clearance in the front as the IR shoots though the end of the dining room table with chairs. It has always made it back home with no issue. I bought 6 extra filters, 6 extra brushes and brush roller for about $24. The brushes came all bent out of shape but dipping them in hot water for about 4.2 second straightens them out just perfect. This will probably work for brushes that are all bent out of shape from use but still in good shape. Update: This unit works so good I just bought a 2nd one for the upstairs for only $80! $30 off coupon and used my Discover points!

I have earned epic parenting award.......
For convincing my kids that we should get a robot vacuum for a family gift this holiday! Meet Mo (Wall-E fans will understand). Mo has fully integrated in to our family like a charm; leaving me to wonder why the heck I waited so long to get him! My house has two dogs, two boys and myself that all have varying degrees of messiness and shedding. Mo has been able to keep up with us all....for the most part. I’m allergic to dogs so I really should vacuum twice a week but I am also dealing with a chronic illness so sometimes I don’t have the energy. Mo has reduced my need to vacuum to once every two weeks, mostly. I typically will pull everything away from the edges then open the app and run Mo on edge detail once a week. Mo is programmed to clean Monday through Friday just before everyone gets up. I give him the weekends off. We usually have to empty his collection container out twice a week. I also put chairs, bar stools, and anything else small (like floor baskets) up once week so he gets under those as well. Mo does a pretty decent job for the price. As you can see from the video, he is able to navigate my multiple surfaces well. He does a good job of getting under my furniture. He has eaten pencils, pipe cleaners, tons of dog hair, a Halo figurine, small bits of paper and sand. Although he and sand don’t always like each other. Occasionally he finds something “lost” and gets constipated. He also does not do well on bathroom carpets that are rubber backed or fringed and will beep annyloyingly loud until you rescue him or he dies. Surprisingly, he does not eat my curtains, which drape into the floor. I did find him napping in the kitchen one morning so I’m guessing he may not have set himself back on the charger the day before. My son turned him off when he was cleaning him out one day and that resets the scheduled programming. I definitely noticed it when he was not cleaning as scheduled. I personally cannot watch him because his random vacuuming drives my OCD brain crazy. My dogs also do not care for Mo. Especially when Mo gets in the room with them. My one dog was barking at Mo because he was cleaning her spot. Mo didn’t seem to notice but for the sake of my sanity, I made Mo go home. We’ve had him for a bit over a month and the only negative I have is that the consumables seem to wear down fast.... according to what the app says. I am glad we got him. He really fits right in to our family. 6 month update: Mo is still going strong. Apparently we are dirtier than I thought. We give him a colonoscopy a few times a week and he keeps going. My floors are fairly clean considering there are 3 humans and two labs. I can now almost extend my vacuuming to every other week. I run him on edge duty on the weekend usually. No more dog fur dust balls, no more broken pencils, no more tiny scraps of paper (I have a slightly obsessed 9 year old with a paper cutting addiction), no more dirt. Heck, Mo even ate sand! Beach sand! Some things I noticed, Mo hates the bathroom rubber backed rugs and will scream until you save him from them (he gets stuck on them). He will forget his programming if you turn him off by accident. He will eat anything in his path but will loudly complain if he doesn’t like it, for example, a cell phone charger or a sock. His side brushes wear down fast. (Bought a genetic replacement kit). Mo has definitely helped curb the “I leave my legos out everywhere so mom can step on them and swear loudly” phenomenon in my house. The rule is, if Mo eats it, it’s gone. So pick up your stuff! But if you’re concerned, you can fairly easily retrieve eaten things from Mo’s belly. I don’t share this with the family for the above mentioned reasons. Anyway, will update in a year. Mo is a keeper.

Save your money, and spend it on a different robot.
The Ecovacs Deebot N79S has had its ups and downs with us over the 15 months we have owned it. Overall, we are extremely unhappy with this purchase. We bought the product in June of 2018. By August of 2019, it now sits as a floor decoration, unable to be used. As we are outside of our warranty window by 3 months, there is nothing that Ecovacs can do to help us resolve the issue. Now don't get me wrong, I am not expecting to be the exception to the warranty rules - our warranty expired, and that is that. What is frustrating is that 3 months after our warranty expired, a product we spent $250 on is now unusable. That is, in my opinion, unacceptable. Our main problem with the robot is that after 15 months, it will not run for more than 5 minutes before stopping, in the middle of the room, displaying a "Main Brush Malfunction" on the app. I have replaced the main brush, the filters, and the side brushes, I have reset the robot, and I have tried removing the main brush to see if it runs without it, all with no luck - the robot continues to only run for 5 minutes before displaying the error, telling me that it is probably not the main brush that is problematic but something else entirely. The app does not provide a clear understanding of what that error is, leaving me helpless when trying to diagnose the problem. I contacted Ecovacs Customer Service, where after I told them everything I did (i.e. replace, remove and reset), they asked me to the EXACT same things, multiple times as their customer service apparently does not communicate between their representatives. One asked me to remove the main brush, and then two replies later, with two other representatives, I'm told to remove the brush again.... Their solution at the end of the day was, "Sorry - you are out of warranty, there is nothing we can do". I have no problem paying to get it fixed, but it would be nice if their Customer Service could do a better job helping me diagnose the problem. Sure, they said I could wait until their repair shop center was open, but they didn't give me any idea of when that could happen. So now I sit with a robot that does not work. Pros: - When it worked, it worked great. The variable suction (controllable from the app) was fantastic. It did a good job cleaning the room it was in. - Customer services replied promptly and was helpful (enough). See below for additional. Cons: - Rarely would we be able to run the Deebot without some malfunction. Whether it is that the robot got stuck under a piece of furniture, or it went off a rug at just the right angle that the drop sensor malfunctioned, rarely would it actually make it back to the docking station without help. I think this is one of the biggest complaints that we have about this Deebot. I should not have to "robot" proof my home for the robot to function. A rug should not cause the robot to malfunction. And either it needs to be a little taller or a little smaller so that it does not get stuck under regular furniture. - Errors on the app were unspecific and hard to track down. A "main brush malfunction" was actually something completely different and untraceable. - Customer service, though responsive, was not super great. I submitted a complaint online, received a response in a timely fashion, replied, and received a response from a completely different person, asking the same questions I had just answered. This happened regularly. I received questions that I had already answered, being bounced from person to person until I was told that I was basically out of luck. - The robot also had a bunch of issues getting stuck in the same room, or going back to the same area over and over and over again. Now I understand this is not a human and thus has no inclination of what room it is in. But it regularly would be turning circles in our halfway, going back and forth, over and over again. It would be nice if it could recognize that it has spent 30 minutes in the same area, and track the wall to get out of the room. - There was inconsistency with the wall sensors. There were times that it would slowly approach the wall, before stopping and turning around. Then there were times when it would full on plow into the wall, slamming hard, and then turning around. Luckily, it never damaged the wall, but the inconsistency seemed a bit odd. Overall, we would not recommend this product to anyone. For the $250 price tag, it its a piece of junk. The ONLY reason I give it 1 star is that it did work for about a year before it became a wonderful room decoration.

Fixed all my want bumps for a Dyson robot vac!
I've only had this unit for less than a week but I'm really loving it (it's name isn't Brad but Tobor for you SiFi move fans). I got it on sale for $199, hard to turn down considering I had major want bumps for the Dyson robot Vac which I don't even know is available in the US but at over $1000, considering I could buy five of these units, want bumps over. I do own two Dyson's; a Ball and the DC35. Both will still be used but less so thanks to this product. Setup was very easy in terms of the hardware and the iPhone application. The first time I tried this vac, I hadn't done a vacuuming with the Dyson for about 2 days. Note that our home is just under 2500 square feet, all tile with a number of low shag throw rugs. I charged the unit over night and let it go in auto mode. It moved all over the house in some random course and I let it run until the little guy ran out of battery. That was over 2 hours. I've enclosed a photo of the dust found; the unit was filled! Easy to clean up and I was pretty happy overall with the job done. But I don't believe the little guy covered every area of the house and I don't know it is fair to expect one unit to do so. Next I tried a different approah. Set the unit in Auto but shut some doors so it is forced to work in a room or two. For example, the master bedroom has a hallway leading to the master bath. On either side of this hallway is a walk in closet and the toilet area. All in all, I suspect 250 or so square feet. I closed the door leading to the rest of the house, set it on auto and gave it an hour to run. This was 2 days after the major house vac with the Dyson Ball. This worked VERY well and the unit was nearly full. Still having batery left (you can see how much on the iPhone app), I placed it into the Kitchen area and again closed off doors so the unit would only vac there and the 'breakfast nook' area. Did a great job there too. So I think this approach of 'spot cleaning' one or two rooms rather than hoping to do the entire house is a good one. I also am amazed how much the unit picked up after only 2 days from using the Dyson Ball. Fact is, the robot can get into areas the Dyson can't and to some degree, vise versa. I don't expect to use this product 100% instead of the other units but I think several times a week, I may set it loose in a room or two and then do a full on Vac with the Dyson Ball once a week after dusting/cleaning. I suffer from allergies and have three dogs so it isn't difficult to see how much each vacuums picks up after only a few days. After I ran the first test mentioned above (whole house on Auto), I used the Dyson Ball the next day after dusting and was surprised to see how little was picked up but then it was only a mater of maybe 12 hours between the two. Tobar has had only two, minor issues getting stuck. One was on a towel on the floor I didn't see. One of the dogs must have knocked it down. It beeped and it was easy to remove the towel. The unit is surprisingly quiet for a vac, the three dogs don't mind it at all. The new puppy (5 months) is fascinated with it. One time it found the puppy's 'pee-pee' pad I forgot to pick up. Again easy to remove and Tobar went off to finish it's job. No issues with carpets and some do have tassels. Does a very good job on carpet; you can see a pattern expected after a vac. Only minor 'issue' as some have reported, is having the unit find it's way home to charging base. Easy enough to pick up and park it for a charge. And now that I'm moving it manually to zoned off rooms, I have to pick it up and place it where I wish anyway. I either let it do the job until it runs out of battery or pick it up and return to home base. Two photo's; one after it's first use (two days after using Dyson Ball); loaded with dirt. 2nd is about 12 hours after using Dyson; not full but still a lot of dust and gunk picked up. Overall I couldn't be happier at this point with the product!

Completely worth it - a little dumb sometimes - but aren't we all.
I read somewhere that the DN79S is the same thing as the DN622.11. First, I hate writing reviews so the fact that I'm writing this says something. We bought it about 6-7 months ago? And after the first few days we said if this thing only lasts us half a year, it would have cost us about $1 a day and we asked ourselves if it was worth it. Completely! and we normally wouldn't say that. We figured we would run it everyday for the first week and then figured we'd only run it every other day or every third day after that. Were we wrong! We run it every day - plus often spot clean around the island counter because our kids are messy eaters. We have a boxer and didn't even think it shed that much. We were wrong again. My Honey empties the Deebot everyday and he says he's "disgusted" with what a good job it does. "It gives you low self esteem." Low self esteem aside, we are very happy with it. We read a funny review of this when we bought it in the spring saying the Deebot is great but it is sometimes dumb. Sometimes it takes more than 5 minutes for the unit to find the docking station. Sometimes it's within 10 feet of the docking station and it starts to veer off somewhere else. It gets caught on cords, strings, backpack straps, shoelaces, and paper towels - but we are really at fault for that. We have a small powder room and sometimes it gets stuck behind the toilet. Installing the App was simple enough for our then 9 year old to do it for us. (Though that doesn't speak to whether we could have done it ourselves or not.) You can change the cleaning schedule via the App - we turned it off while we were at the beach. You can set it to run every day or whatever days you want. You can have multiple cleaning schedules. You can turn it on manually and steer it with the remote. For some reason, i's hugely gratifying to steer it to clean a small area instead of getting out the dust pan and brush. It has a room cleaning feature though we never bothered to learn how to do it. (I'll ask my 10 year old to set it up one of these days) It has an edging feature to go around the room and it remembers eventually where all the permanent walls and furniture is. It also seems to sense when there is an obstacle in front of it but we're not sure because it has such a RANDOM cleaning pattern. If there is an actual pattern or algorithm, we haven't figure it out yet. But it gets the job done. (98% of it anyway) If you at some point don't just stand there and watch it clean for awhile, then you're a better person than we are. I am sometimes mesmerized by it. We thought the dog would go crazy around it but he just ignores it. He's a 75 Lbs dog that has stepped on it accidentally a number of times and SirCleansALot (that's what our daughter named it) doesn't seem worse for the wear. It has a standard and a maximum vacuum setting but we only run it on the standard suction. (Think how low our self esteem would be on the maximum setting). It doesn't suck up our dog's food on the standard settings sometimes - but probably because the pieces are too big. Both filters and brushes can all be replaced - the App has an indicator that lets you know about when the items should be replaced but use your good judgement and then you can reset the reminder once you've replaced the items. It's most economical to buy the packages that has everything. The Deebot really works best for people who have all one flooring like hardwood or vinyl planks or tile, etc. We also have low weave area rugs at all three of our doors and it has no problems with them. The noise seems loud when it starts but it quickly becomes background noise. We can't use it at night because I'm a light sleeper. The run noise itself doesn't bother me but the beeping when it turns on and when it docks is really loud and wakes me up because we live in an open concept house. Totally worth it. And if it isn't worth it to you, return it - but it's worth giving it a try. It really keeps our floors so much cleaner. I haven't really brought out the broom since we bought this. It's kind of like having a maid come to you house and sweeping/vacuuming your floors every day. (I only gave a 4 for deep cleaning because we don't have plush rugs so we don't know.)

Great machine, complex setup, subpar app and software
It works great, at least cleaning-wise, yet I had an issue with the accessories tray that won't open and had to return the whole behemoth for revision. They sent me the return label but yet, putting this thing back into the box is a chore. Now, the app is very complex and setting up the vacuum takes some time and a lot of patience. It has a logic, but you'll have to find it: it is not a straightforward process if you want it to do specific things, like, vacuuming on Mondays and moping on Tuesday... You can alway let the AI to choose whatever it think it should do but I'd rather have the robot going around when I decide and not when it does. In shorter words: it is a project, you need to constantly take some level of care with it (it gets disoriented every once in a while, it decides not to mop, so I have had to send it back to the station and start over the process...) the hand held vacuum is powerful and easy to use, and the fact it will empty itself into the base station was the main reason for me to choose this particular model. So in resume, it is a complex not very dependable machine, but it does everything very well, when operating normally. I compare it to a nice old classic car: you take care of it and it may concede you a few weekends of fun. (not guaranteed, though). Buy at your own expense and enjoy the ride.

I love it
This thing is perfect. Definitely, hands down, one of the best purchases I have ever made. It's mapping is excellent. Hardly ever gets stuck. Vacuum works superb and gets everything up. The noise level can be adjusted. Last but certainly not least it does an outstanding job at mopping. I have tried out most of the competition brands and this one is definitely better
