HORMEL Beef Tamales, 28 oz (Pack of 4)

I love Hormel canned tamales. I know, they are "Probably" unhealthy but are an indulgence and occasional treat. As compared to other brands of canned tamales, I prefer Hormel for taste and quality. I know how these "rate" among the lovers of "real" tamales. But I can't help myself! These are still a "deal" in price. Unwrap the tamales, nuke them in the microwave for 90 seconds (with a little cheese on top) and you've got a warm treat.

Of course purist will dismiss these canned tamales as being anglo-sized and tasting synthetic. I get that, but I find them delicious. I do, regularly, buy real tamales and wife makes home made tamales, but I like these more. It's a tiny, tiny bit spicy and the meat taste utra-processed. There is too much salt to preserve it, I guess, but they taste good to me. Maybe because I had them as a child, and loved them then. IDK, but I love them now. I eat them sparingly because of the sodium content, but they are delicious to me.

These Hormel Beef Tamales are good, once in awhile. They are easy to heat and eat but rather greasy and institutional tasting. The recipe on the can combines the tamales with chili and cheese for a simple oven meal. Nice can to have on hand for emergency use.

I live in Texas and have a great grocery store five minutes from my home. They sell fresh tamales daily. I wanted to keep some on the shelf and began searching for canned tamales. I found these online and they are very very good. Each one is wrapped, not in corn but in a lightweight paper type product. I have steamed them. I have also heated them in chili with shredded cheese. They are very very good and I recommend people keep them on hand, especially now with the availability of fresh Hispanic products that might not be as available in our future.

Good but less meat-to- tamale ratio. I give less than 5 stars because the flavor is a little off or lacking.
