A rare quality 2.1 amp with a passive sub output - I needed this.
Very well constructed for the price and compact as well, I was using a digital amp with analogue controls, this amp is digital all the way with the very intuitive single rotary encoder knob and the three digit display. Once you get to know the different display menu modes, tweaking with just the front knob is a breeze. The various eq modes, bass, treble, tone presents, high and low pass filters and subwoofer volume are quite subtle to my recollection but it's well worth spending a bit of time tweaking them to your tastes as the amp has virtually no problems filling my listening room with a very balanced 3d stereo image soundstage whether using the excellent bluetooth receiver or the optical in. I have very little use for the usb dac in, 3.5mm jack in and the HDMI ARC, I have a 200 cd changer, media streamer and a linear tracking turntable connected to an Arylic BP50 preamp feeding the S.M.S.L. via an optical cable . Then out of the stereo L & R and subwoofer outputs to a pair of Wharfedale Modus Cubes and a matching pair of Mission 73ps passive subwoofers. The remote control is a nice addition and it seems to work well but my room is so small I can just reach over to the amp and use the rotary controller. I bought this amp because it had a passive sub output and an optical in - these and everything else works flawlessly - a great little modern amp for a bargain price.

Great soundbar alternative for 2.1 setup with passive subwoofer
Perfect alternative to a soundbar for 2.1 setup. It's easy to convert a subwith a broken amp into a passive sub, but it's not easy to find a 2.1 amplifier with a remote control. This meets that perfectly. It links up easy with my TV over hdmi. It looks sleek. It is powerful enough for normal volume levels. Yeah the settings are a bit weird but you only need to figure those out once. It lets my partner use the 2.1 setup without having to fiddle about with settings. Bluetooth connection works well. It's not there to provide chest shaking bass but hey thats not what I bought it for! Make sure to set the audio format to PCM on your TV to get proper 2 channel audio output sent to the amp, and make sure to plug into the ARC (or eARC) labelled hdmi port on your TV. Works a charm!

Causes interference on the UK amateur radio HF frequencies.
I bought this for a present for my husband so this is his review. For it's price this DAC amplifier is very good. I replaced a massive Onkyo TN414 AV amplifier with this teeny device. The sound quality is very good and plenty loud enough. The remote control is a bit slow. The number of inputs is excellent for the price. I do however have one issue that would not affect most users. I am an amateur radio operator (HAM) and this DAC produces severe RF interference across most of the bands from the speaker cables. It should adhere to UK interference compliance but quite obviously doesn't. I have emailed S.M.S.L but have not yet received a reply.

Great value
Used it to connect two Ruark shelf speakers to my TV via audio cable/ Line in Amazing improvement in sound quality ( over TV internal speakers) Also easily connects to my iPhone via Bluetooth. Remote works well. Great value for the price (haven’t used the subwoofer connection) very happy with it

ARRIVED DEFECTIVE
Great sounding amp, I purchased (AS NEW), but arrived with a missing DIGIAL PORT COVER. So the cable does not click into place. (Works if I hold the optical cable in place) so the device is fine, probably the person who returned it broke the port cover. Reached out to the company but zero reply! I cannot be bothered with the hassle to return so will maybe use one day if I ever purchase a second pair of book speaker, but with analogue cables.

Good, but not brilliant.
You need to buy an optical cable connector, not included. Try Argos £8.99. Very small device, so connecting speakers is a bit of a faff. £90 is reasonable money for this gadget. Sound OK, but not great from the Sony TV, not very loud. The issue may be the source, as it is going into a pair of quality B&W speakers. Output certainly better than the awful SonyTV output. Might get a sub-woofer, which this also takes.

Epic search has ended
I bought these since my 10 year-old Maxell soundbase died, whence we were exposed to the annoying thinness and screechiness of our TV's in-built audio. I had tried a well-reviewed soundbar but had to return it since it's treble range was irritating wasmore irritating than the TV's own audio. The epic search continued and yielded results when I discovered that many people were praising the benefits of using a HDMI/ARC enabled amplifier instead of a soundbar. I wondered then if such an amp would allow my faithful old Mission 760i bookshelf speakers to resume service again. This new inspiration changed the direction of my odyssey but morale dipped when I saw the price of these amps - hundreds of pounds into the thousands. However, great joy went up when I stumbled on this tiny amp. I placed an order, still wary of the disappointment of the returned soundbar - the fact that the wee amp had only 27 reviews was, at first uninspiring, before I realised that not as many people are prepared to be aware of the possibility of going the amp/speaker/HDMI combination. Anyway, the amp has arrived and turned out to be the saviour I'd been hoping for. It sounds great - can't imagine needing any more bass (I have it a lower level), mid-range is perfect and the treble has ended our treble-hell. The only criticism is that the instructions struggle to beat trial and error; also, the text is so incredibly tiny - this great wee amp deserves better. Some tips: 1. This amp will connect your TV directly to your speakers without any other equipment. 2. If you have an HDMI/ARC enabled TV, this amp will allow control of volume through the TV remote. 3. When selecting the input mode, select ARC if you want to go the HDMI/ARC route. 4. At night, I turn off the TV and amp at the mains without turning off the amp via its remote - it means, when the TV is turned on the following day, the amp kicks in automatically. 5. The amp remote doesn't come with batteries but rechargeable ones work.

Kolejny minus to regulacja bass treble. Nie działa ona tak jak niezależna korekcja niskich i wysokich tonów, a raczej jako "wilk eq", a więc kiedy dodajemy treble - znika bas, kiedy dodajemy basu - znika góra. Najlepiej zostawić te ustawienia na zero. Pomijając wady sprzęt brzmi całkiem dobrze i nie brakuje mu mocy we współpracy z głośnikami stereo. Plusem jest wejście HDMI eArc do podłączenia TV. U mnie to działa.

Ottimo amplificatore stereo (+subwoofer).
