'Yesterwynde' is the Finnish/Dutch/British troupe Nightwish's tenth studio album. The band are one of the most fascinating rock bands of the last decades, whose enigmatic paths have proceeded from acoustic passages to symphonic heavy metal and from catchy folk to progressive majesty. If there is one trait the band has year after year, it might be this: expect something familiar but also expect the unexpected. Nightwish has indeed broken all kinds of boundaries - never deliberately, but perfectly naturally. Review: Probably my favourite Nightwish album - OK, so to get the niggles out of the way, I would have liked the Earbook version but £80 for three CDs and not even a Bluray of the album in 5.1 is too expensive. Also, I find the vocals quite buried in the mix, and it's difficult to make out many of the lyrics as a result. When you have an outstanding vocalist like Floor Jensen, the decision to drown her out in the very fulsome mix seems a little strange. Otherwise, this is a fantastic album, and probably my favourite yet from the band. This may be an arguable point, but personally I feel that the album benefits from the lack of shouty bloke vocals that Marco's departure has resulted in. There isn't really a bad track, but standouts for me are An Ocean of Strange Islands, Perfume of the Timeless, Sway, and I could listen to the gorgeous Lanternlight all day long. This is a vast improvement on their last album, Human. :II: Nature., and I hope they will continue in this direction. All I wish for now is a Bluray with a 5.1 / Atmos mix to bring out those vocals. Review: Great - Great album from the masters of symphonic metal

Tuomas does it again!
Another masterpiece from the metal Mozart. The finest composer and musicians combine with the most empathetic and talented vocalist of our time. Just listen. You won’t be disappointed!

So much better than Human
This is a very interesting album mostly different than almost anything they have done before. A lot of the tracks are excellent and the instrumentation superb (as you 'd expect). Oddly, for me, the tracks that don't inspire are the ones put on media before release i.e. Perfume of the Timeless. On those there is far too much repetition. Still miss Marko on some of the vocals !

Arrived promptly and in good condition
Arrived within a few days of international release, in good condition. Great price for an excellent album from an exceptional band. You need to listen to it many times to learn to love it.

It's new Nightwish. What else do you need?
Even only 2 listens in, this is something special. Sounding like a worthy finale to the trilogy of Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human II Nature, there is a LOT going on in this album. More complex, considered and sometimes quiet (except when it's pounding your eardrums!) it is an album to spend time with. Best without other distractions, as there is a lot of subtlety and musical invention to take in. But that's the joy of discovering new material from a favourite band. Looking forward to getting to know this as well as the other albums.

Understated. There is a message behind the music
The only thing missing is a heavy bass and a hard vocal. Everything else is so intertwined with the theme of life it's sad it couldn't be called a concept album. In fairness this album stands on its own as well as linking the previous two. Mind blowing singing from Floor and the drumming is sooo tight! And never mind the orchestra. Listen on repeat...

Another soundtrack
Brilliant musicianship as you'd expect, but it's basically a continuation of the last two albums. Anyone hoping for a return to the pre Imaginaerum days will be disappointed. Again. Imaginaerum was an absolutely fantastic concept album. As a one off. But it's as if the experience led to Tuomas deciding he no longer wanted to be in a rock band and instead wanted to write film scores. Ever since Dark Passion Play, listening to a Nightwish album has been like listening to a movie soundtrack. At least with Imaginaerum we got an accompanying movie of sorts, but listening to this type of material without any visuals is something of an acquired taste and it's one I'm not sure I have the patience for. Maybe he should team up with Hans Zimmer?
