Set against the backdrop of ancient Greece, Odyssey offers an unforgettable journey filled with exploration, combat, and storytelling. Breathtaking Open World: The first thing that strikes you about Odyssey is its breathtaking world. The graphics are stunning, showcasing the beauty of Greece in all its glory—from the sun-kissed beaches to the towering mountains and bustling cities. Each location is rich with detail, making exploration a joy. Whether you’re sailing the Aegean Sea or wandering through Athens, the scale and beauty of this world are truly impressive. Engaging Storyline and Characters: Odyssey weaves a compelling narrative that allows you to shape your adventure through choices and character development. You can choose to play as Alexios or Kassandra, each offering a unique perspective on the unfolding story. Brilliant game and great VFM
Negatives Game assumes you have played one of previous games in franchise and doesn't give you too many hints of how to play early on Some may find it a bit grindy at times (I didn't) The accents and pronunciations are a bit off Game loading time isn't fast Personally although I love the combat I'm not great at it and it can be difficult remembering all the different combinations of button presses and what they do, especially when deep in combat with multiple enemies. If you find a challenge to difficult there is no option to skip it. All you can do is reduce difficulty. Positives Under £13 for a game this good is insane VFM Game is massive. I realised this when after playing for 7 hours I got a screen welcoming me to the start of the game. I have just clocked over 220 hours and completed the main quests (along with many side quests). I assume I will easily get to 300 hours before I call it a day. Its very addictive. Always find yourself wanting to just get to the next quest. The quests are very varied and there are lots and lots and lots of them. The characters are relatable. Some of the right decisions you make turn out to be the wrong ones (I liked this) The progression system is very good. The highest level you can reach is 99. I'm on 68 at the time of writing but I guess you could finish the game at maybe 55. Summary. My favourite game I have played include The last of us, days gone and horizon zero dawn. This is not as good as those, but its close and for under £13 its an absolute bargain. Just buy it.

An Epic, Massive RPG That Just Happens to be Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a game that takes the series in a new direction. It's less of a traditional AC game and more of a full-blown RPG, and it's a huge step up from previous titles. You can tell Ubisoft took a lot of inspiration from games like The Witcher 3, and it really works for this world. Set in Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, the map is absolutely massive, with beautiful landscapes from sun-drenched beaches to rugged mountains. It's honestly one of the most stunning open worlds I've ever seen on the PS4. Instead of one character, you get to choose between two protagonists: Alexios or Kassandra. I chose Kassandra, and she is amazing, her voice actor does a great job and she's a really strong and funny character. The best part is the new dialogue options, which give you real choices that impact the story. You can play as a good guy, a sarcastic jerk, or a romance-driven character, and the game actually remembers your decisions. This is something that has not been in an AC game before and it makes the story feel a lot more personal. The main quest is about your character's family and a mysterious cult that's pulling the strings of the war, and it's a great story with a lot of twists. The gameplay is also a major change. It's a proper action RPG now, with a loot and gear system that lets you customize your warrior, assassin, or hunter playstyle. The combat is fast and fluid, and you can unlock a ton of cool new abilities, like the iconic Spartan Kick, which is super satisfying to use. It's very different from older AC games, which were more about one-hit stealth assassinations, so if you're a fan of those, you might need to adjust your expectations. While stealth is still an option, you can't just one-shot every enemy, especially the elite ones, so you'll have to rely more on direct combat or use your powerful special abilities. With all that said, the game isn't perfect. The map is so big that it can feel a little overwhelming, and there is a lot of "go here, kill this, bring back that" type of content. Some of the side quests feel a bit like filler, but many of them have good little stories. The progression is tied to a level system, and sometimes you have to do side missions to get to a high enough level for the main story, which can feel a little grindy. The naval combat is a ton of fun though, and it's a big part of the game. Overall, if you're looking for a giant, beautiful RPG with a ton of content and a fantastic setting, this is the game for you. It might not be a "classic" Assassin's Creed experience, but it's one of the best games in the series and well worth the price.

Amazing game
I absolutely love that game. It was my first AC game and I love it. The story is very good, even though it can feel like you’re running errand for different people in order to obtain information. The character is very likeable too (you can play as Alexios, or his sister Kassandra). One thing I liked is you can make choices during some conversations and cut scenes, which slightly affects the story. Regarding the side quests, some of them can be a little boring but fairly quick, just doing a task for someone, and some can be more enjoyable as there is more of a backstory to it. Same goes for quest lines, they can feel like a whole different story with multiple quests, which still give you lots to do once you’ve finished the main story. Overall really enjoyed that game, still have a lot of things to do, basically unlimited fun, definitely worth it.

Good game but so big and crammed that it's a grind
I have been a fan of the Assassin's Creed series since the first game so I was always going to buy this game but I must admit, I found it very difficult to get into. I tried to start the game 3 times before getting far enough in to get hooked (which I now am). I like to write these reviews as a list of pros and cons so here we go: Pros: 1. The main story is very engaging and it makes you really care about your main character's progress and fate 2. The combat system is quite deep with a lot of different weapons and different ways to fight via the use of different focuses on upgrades. You'll spend a lot of time fighting so good thing too! You can also choose to focus on stealth or all out carnage or a mixture of both. 3. The cultist system is well designed: without spoilers, you identify your assassination targets by gathering information before you can go after them. Getting this information is built in to every other aspect of the game so you end up getting it by doing the other activities rather than a tedious grind doing one thing over and over 4. The character design is great, Kassandra in particular is hilarious. The "famous" side characters are well written too. Cons: 1. The open world is absolutely huge. Some people may see this as a good thing but for me it was a huge con. The open world is so big that you will quickly get overwhelmed by the number of question marks and quest icons across the map and the map itself is so big that clearing the map of these question marks soon becomes a massive chore. 2. Linked to the above point, there are a massive number of side quests but they are very repetitive and most of them boil down to "fetch this", "kill these bandits". There are so many of these quests that you can spend so long clearing the side quests that you forget where you got up to in the main story. Every time I look at my mission list, there are so many that I just don't know where to start to clear them and which ones actually need to be done to progress. 3. Unlike AC Origins, the massive map does not take advantage of the opportunity to have unique locations. Each one is very similar and looks like they might be copy/paste jobs just to fill the map. 4. The level up system for weapons is a bit of a pain. As you level up your character, you have the option to level up your favourite weapons but annoyingly, despite constantly breaking down old weapons for resources and raiding caves etc for iron, I never have enough resources to upgrade more than one item to my current level at a time. 5. There is a system in the game where you can weaken a certain area which will allow either the Athenians or the Spartans to take control. While I see where the designers were going with this, I don't like this system at all because you end up switching sides so often that it ends up losing all meaning. For example, you can spend a ton of time doing missions on behalf of one side but then end up killing soldiers of that same side while clearing question mark locations just because that side currently controls the area you're in. So, in summary, this is a very good game and if you like Assassin's Creed you will end up getting sucked in quite quickly but it also has some major issues that turn it into a bit of a tedious grind. This is due to the fact they have crammed so much unnecessary content in that while you don't have to do it all, you can quickly get overwhelmed. Origins had its share of these issues but Odyssey takes it to the next level. I really hope the designers take note of the feedback on these points because future games could really do with being a bit smaller and more focused.

What's not to love about ancient Greece and all it comes with?
Having had the pleasure to play most of the AC games from the franchise, I must say this is perhaps my favourite, tied in with the Ezio's ones (ACII will always be a classic). The game has an extensive map, many, many challenges and best of all, you can select your character. Playing as both Alexios or Kassandra comes with joys of its own, but Kassandra, if you have a chance to play as her, will steal your heart and make the game even more enjoyable. The graphics are amazing, you have beautiful, can't-believe-this-is-a-game sights and tons of interactions to make the game a unique experience according to what you choose. No two plays are ever the same, and the game is tailored to whatever choices you make as you are playing. Ubisoft has also made great changes to the combat system, making it fun to not only be stealthy, but to go in guns blazing and tailor your fighting style with one of a kind skills that you can upgrade as you play. I fell in love with this game and with the franchise all over again, and I can't wait to see where Ubisoft goes with the next AC Valhalla.
