Buff Unisex Solid Heavyweight Merino Wool

I've always been a scarf wearer but have come to love these Merino buffs. Yes there's something reassuring and cosy about wrapping a nice, thick, wool scarf around your neck, but these buffs are so quick to slip on, are very comfortable, stop drafts just as well or better than a scarf and save having to find somewhere to put your dangly bits! The other very useful thing is the fact that whilst they're warm, they still fold small enough to fit into pretty much any coat pocket, so there's no wondering where to put them or having to carry them if you get too hot. Similarly, because they take up such little space I've found I'm more likely to chuck one in a bag or pocket in case it's needed instead of deciding to leave the scarf at home and getting a chilly neck when it happens to be windier or colder than expected. Although not designed for children I've also found these really useful for kids, again it's so much easier to grab one and pop it over a head and under a coat rather than trying to get a child to put on a scalf, trying to tie the thing up and then avoid losing it when it inevitably gets taken off or falls off. After all of that you've still got the added versatility that a buff gives you- try wrapping a scarf around your head to create a hat or using one on your face to keep the wind chill off! All in all a really useful thing to have around, especially if you like to get out and about on walks and don't want the bulk of a scarf to carry.

The fabric is thinner than the heavy knitted ones but works well and keeps your neck warm ok. Put on top of a radiator ready for the morning commute. Expensive to buy in high street retailers so best buying here on Amazon.

I always used a Buff when I rode a motorcycle so when I was looking for something to keep the chill out over winter and saw this heavyweight merino wool Buff, it was a no brainer. It keeps me warm and toasty, is super comfortable and being merino wool, it’s nice and breathable. All this without the bulk I often find when wearing a traditional scarf. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

I keep this beauty in my backpack and take it to work everyday. I only need to take it out and put it on whenever I feel the evening chill wind rising, and it does the trick of protecting and warming up my neck below the jacket perfectly without taking up space, being a huge bulky scarf or even drawing attention with whatever outfit I have on the day. It’s really practical, soft, and does the job beautifully. Very pleased with my purchase!!

Having used a regular weight merino Buff for years now, I was looking forward to a thicker version. Turns out it is practically useless by comparison, being exactly half the length (see photo). This means it can’t be configured in most of the ways a thinner one can. Even as a hat it has a big hole on top that lets cold air in. It can only really be used as a neck gaiter - but just folding the longer, thinner, cheaper version in half would be exactly the same anyway. They really dropped the ball with this one - I would avoid it if I were you!

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Sehr warm, unterm Fahrradhelm tragbar, als Mütze tragbar. BEWERTUNG: Ich bin erstaunt und sehr begeistert, weil das Tuch deutlich wärmer ist als mein doppelt gelegtes altes, dünneres Merinotuch. Absolute Empfehlung für Menschen, die schnell an den Ohren frieren oder im Winter Fahrrad fahren - man muss nur schauen, ob es mit eigenem Helm funktioniert. Kuschelig warm, ohne zu kratzen. Fünf Sternchen für einen Satz heiße Ohren! DETAILS & VERGLEICH: Recherche, um das richtige Produkt zu finden, war etwas schwierig, denn die Angaben zu Größe und Gewicht bei Amazon scheinen nicht immer zu stimmen - zumindest waren sie beim selben Produkt unterschiedlich. Deshalb hier ein paar Informationen, die ggf. für andere auch hilfreich sein können. a) NECKWARMER vs. SCHLAUCHTUCH - Gelernt: Buff unterscheidet zwischen Neckwarmer und Schlauchtuch (bzw. Halswärmer oder auch Tubular genannt). Dies ist ein Neckwarmer, d.h. das Tuch ist kürzer als die Schlauchtücher, ich schätze ungefähr halb so lang. Flach gemessen ca. 29cm lang und ca. 22cm breit (= ca. 44cm für den Kopfumfang). Aus einer anderen Bewertung eines anderen Käufers gebe ich den Tipp weiter, auf der Produktseite des Herstellers nachzusehen, dort gibt es weitere Informationen. b) PRODUKTEIGENSCHAFTEN - Buff unterscheidet in "cold, cool, warm, hot". Dies ist ein "Heavyweight Merino Wool Neckwarmer" und in der Klasse "cold" - also offenbar das Wärmste, was Buff zu bieten hat. - Dieser Neckwarmer ist aus extrem dickem, zweilagigem Material, laut Herstellerangaben 100% Merino. Eine Lage hat 300g/Quadratmeter, entsprechend beide zusammen 600g/Quadratmeter. Da zusammengenäht, hat man immer die 2 Lagen am Kopf. - Nähte gibt es, sowohl um die beiden Lagen zusammenzunähen als auch einmal längs von unten nach oben. Die Naht längs ist, wenn man Schlauchtücher ohne Naht gewohnt ist, relativ auffällig, weil in leicht hellerem Blau als die Stoff-Farbe. Aber es ist ordentlich genäht, ist eine eher kunstvolle Naht und sieht hochwertig aus. - Laut Herstellerangaben hergestellt in Barcelona - da darf man hoffen, dass es bei der Herstellung auch menschlich fair zugeht. - Ich vermute dass - es ist ja eigentlich auch ein Neckwarmer - das Tuch für Menschen mit sehr großem Kopf etwas eng sein könnte, wenn man es auf dem Kopf trägt. Bei mir passt es sehr gut. c) WÄRMEEIGENSCHAFTEN / WIE ZU NUTZEN? - FAHRRADHELM: Ich trage den Neckwarmer auf dem Kopf, als Schutz unterm Fahrradhelm. Und bin begeistert, wie warm er ist - ich friere extrem schnell und suchte ein sehr warmes Tuch, da mir an kalten Tagen auch mein doppelt oder dreifach gelegtes altes, dünneres Buff-Merino nicht ausreichte. Je nach Spiel im Helm könnte es eng werden. Bei mir funktioniert es, wenn ich das Tuch weit über die Ohren ziehe, was ohnehin Sinn der Sache ist. Ich habe noch nie so warme Ohren gehabt! - MÜTZE: Kann auch als Mütze getragen werden. Bei mir ist es gerade so lang, dass der Kopf vollständig bedeckt ist und dass kein Loch entsteht, obwohl es kürzer ist als die Schlauchtücher. Härtetest bei Minustemperaturen steht aber noch aus, ggf. müsste ich da besser noch mein altes dünnes Schlauchtuch drunterziehen, das man ja so drehen und wenden kann, dass keine Öffnung bestehen bleibt. Bei diesem langen alten Schlauchtuch mochte ich immer die Optik der Mehrlagigkeit, die entstand, wenn man das Tuch doppelt legte. Dieses Heayweight-Merino sieht am Kopf eher wie eine enge Mütze aus. d) VERGLEICH mit anderem Anbieter "Buff+UP", Produkt "Buff Set" - Es gibt bei Amazon noch einen anderen Anbieter, firmiert als "Buff+UP", Produkt gekennzeichnet als "Buff Set". Die Angaben über das Produkt waren außer dem Foto so unterschiedlich, vor allem die Maße und das Gewicht, dass ich beide Produkte bestellte, um sie zu vergleichen. Ergebnis: Die Neckwarmer sind identisch. - Tipp: wenn man das Produkt in den Einkaufswagen gelegt hat, sieht man - zumindest bei diesen Buffs - eine Produktnummer. Das ist mir aber auch erst jetzt nach dem Kauf aufgefallen. - Unterschied bei "Buff+UP": dort wird ein weiteres dünnes Schlauchtuch mitgeliefert, anderes Material, vermute Synthetik, Logo "UP", Enden nicht vernäht, daher etwas fransig, wirkt nicht sehr hochwertig und ich brauche es nicht (deshalb "Buff Set"). Da bei "Buff+UP" das Set um einiges teurer war als hier das Einzeltuch und ich das dünne Tuch nicht benötige, habe ich diese günstigere Variante behalten. e) FARBE "Denim" - Die Farbe "Denim" entspricht eher der bei "Buff Set" von "Buff+UP" als dem Foto bei dieser rezensierten Variante. Es ist ein wie ich finde schönes mitteldunkles Blau, nicht so leuchtend wie hier gezeigt, sondern eher etwas gedeckt. Können Erwachsene gut tragen - manche helleren Blautöne sehen für mich immer eher nach Kinderkleidung aus. Würde sagen, die Farbe "Denim" ist farblich für Frauen und Männer geeignet. Der Klassiker, schlicht, neutral, kombinierbar, kein Muster-Schnickschnack. ABSOLUT EMPFEHLENSWERT für Menschen, die es gern warm an den Ohren haben!

scrivo rece alla fine dell’inverno dopo diversi mesi di utilizzo. Lo adoro, è diventato compagno inseparabile delle giornate fredde e ha reso obsoleto l’uso delle sciarpe. Piegato occupa pochissimo spazio e sta comodamente nella tasca della giacca, anche mettendolo e togliendolo infinite volte non ha minimamente perso elasticità e mantiene un fit perfetto. Nonostante sia di pura lana (isolamento termico eccellente) non da il minimo fastidio sulla pelle e anzi è di una morbidezza incredibile. Buff una garanzia, prodotto davvero eccellente.

Finalmente una scaldacollo che fa veramente il suo mestiere...prima di sceglierla ero un po' scettico perché la mia pelle a contatto con la lana diventa tutta rossa perciò d'esempio non posso portare il maglione a girocollo... Invece stavolta mi sono dovuto ricredere... Il tessuto non mi dà alcun fastidio non pizzica rimane bello attillato al mio collo usato durante il trekking più volte adesso che inizia a fare freddo e intrappolando il calore del collo diventa indispensabile durante le mie escursioni a bassa temperature... Sono pienamente soddisfatto, la qualità si paga e qui posso dire che quei soldi sono stati spesi benissimo!
