Sound great, installed temporarily without an amp they were pretty quiet and flat (as to be expected, most stock audio systems call for 2ohm speakers with a much higher sensitivity as they are often paper cone). Once you pair them with an amp you’ll really hear the difference, in my opinion it’s not worth replacing your stock speakers (with these at least) without adding an amp of some sort - a lot of wasted value left on the table! Ended up with two of these in the front and two of the coax models from the same S2 lineup in the rear; everything is running off of a Hertz HCP 4D 4 channel amplifier outputting 75W RMS (<1% THD) up to 85W RMS (10% THD) per channel at 4 Ohms. Seems to be the sweet spot for the 80W RMS these speakers are rated for. Running off my stock head unit as it’s heavily integrated with a bunch of the vehicles features. Sound amazing with the Hertz amp, tested with a Pioneer A6704 amp before I switched to the Hertz as I wasn’t satisfied with the volume or sound. The tweeters aren’t too sharp and put out more detailed + cleaner sound than expected from a midrange speaker (keep in mind, it’s all personal reference). Still sound good at high volumes, nice for when you want to listen to your music with the windows down on a highway or something. I previously owned a set of JBL GTO609C’s and I prefer these Alpines mainly due to the higher frequency detail they put out. The JBL’s are for you if you want a slightly more bass heavy sound and don’t want/can’t have a separate subwoofer. The Alpine’s are definitely a little more “sparkly” compared to the Jbl’s “warmer” sound. I’m running two 12” SQ-oriented subs crossed over with these so my main focus was clear and precise mids and highs with some decent punch when needed, wasn’t really worried about the low end. Overall i’m very happy with these speakers, after a week of listening and adjusting things i’m satisfied with the sound and quality of these speakers, I do wish they came with an active crossover for the tweeters instead of a passive one but in the end I don’t feel the need to change them so it’s all good in my books! If you can get them on sale go for it, I doubt you’ll regret getting them especially when compared to some of the other notable mid range speakers in the market right now.

These Alpine components are honestly solid, especially if you’re coming from stock speakers. You can immediately tell they’re cleaner and more detailed. The highs are crisp without being annoying, and the tweeters actually sound good instead of that cheap, piercing noise you get from budget brands. Vocals come through clear, which is nice if you listen to rap or anything with heavy vocals. The mids are where these shine. Music sounds fuller and more alive compared to factory speakers. You actually hear details you didn’t notice before. Now for the reality check: The bass is decent but not crazy. Don’t expect these to hit like a sub. They have some punch, but if you’re used to heavy bass, you’re still gonna want a subwoofer. They’re rated around 80W RMS, which is legit , but they really wake up when you give them a proper amp. Running them off a weak head unit kinda wastes their potential. Build quality is good, typical Alpine. Nothing flashy, just reliable. Cons: Bass is not enough on its own Need an amp to really shine Not the loudest if underpowered Pros: Clean, clear sound Good highs without harshness Strong mids and vocals Great upgrade from stock Overall: If you’re on a budget but still want quality, these are a no-brainer. Not competition-level, but way better than most cheap speakers. Pair them with an amp and a sub, and now you’re actually cooking. Rating: 8/10
