A test of marital trust
Update: this patch worked for two years! At the start of the 3rd summer, our friends were here with their young kids. One of them kindly emerged from underwater in her goggles and handed me a weird plastic rubbery thing that she found stuck to the bottom of the pool. I don’t know if she pulled it off or if it was loose and floating. So, we repeated the processes outlined below. We are hosting our son’s grad party in a month and I have a feeling the patch won’t last the event, so we will likely be patching again, but we are basically experts now. Ok, so when it says you can use this underwater, be thoughtful about where under the water you need to use it. We realized after opening our pool that we had a tear on the floor of the liner. My husband tried to patch it once, doing the swim-down-and-kick-like-hell-and-use-your-foot-to-smooth-it-out method. It stuck, but water was still slowly seeping out. So I gave up and and called Eric the Pool Dr, recommended by my neighbor. Turns out Pool Dr sold his business, but talked me through the process: you have to cut the patch 2-3x the size of the hole, slather it like crazy and fold it over. Then swim down, use something to hold yourself down, and use a plastic putty knife to get all the bubbles out. So, one afternoon we tried again. First we had to pull off the old patch, and it was on there pretty good, so the stuff sticks! We sunk a kettle bell, my husband put on a pair of our kids' crappy goggles, and I prepped the patch while he thought about his strategy and did some recon missions. Our method required me to put pressure on his back/butt, HOLDING HIM DOWN UNDER THE WATER, while he opened the patch and placed it, then grasped the kettle bell with one hand and used the puttly knife to get out all the air bubbles with the other. This process required coming up for breath a few times, each time with me subsequently pushing him back under the water. We have been married for 17 years. This was a true test of the trust in our marriage. It was a little bit terrifying. We appear to no longer be losing water though this ground hole, and nobody drowned. Still, I hope if we have to patch again, we will do so when the pool isn't quite full.

It works
We had about a 1 inch tear in the line of our above ground pool where pool steps had rubbed it over the years. Patch was a little messy with glue and some air bubbles under patch where liner is creased and not perfectly flat but I applied it and its working great no more leak. Its been in place now for 3 months and still holding. Planning on replacing our 10 year old liner next season but this patch is legit.

Glue's weak, patch is inflatable toy thin. will not last even if you luck out and work.
I used it 2 times. once on a dry surface on my vinyl pool, it stick a little. used it on another time under water, it seems as soon as it touch the water, the glue is already weakened. I had a patch on it a few years ago and it had a minor leak now, maybe 1/4 inch more or less and something seems none. I took that off and apply this glue and patch last night, it doesn't seem it stick well. Check this morning, already lost about 1 inch, about 3 PM, lost another inch. at this rate, by 24 hours, it'll probably loose 3 inches. I read another site that the best glue is from Boxer for wet patching. and probably should get a thicker patch from the pool vinyl instead of this super thin one; this one is as thin as your inflatable toy. even if patch work, I don't think it'll last.

Must get if you have a vinyl pool
I was able to extend the life of a vinyl pool for 3 swim season leaving it up year round! I could have probably extended the life longer but we opted for a new pool. I had tried the epoxy jweld but it failed miserably. I was not sure how well it would work but this stuff is amazing. I recommend a two person team. One giving you the vinyl piece and glue and one sticking it under water. This product works underwater! No need to drain the pool. This is what I have learned. You need to cut the vinyl patch in a circle. Before we started we would use pennies or coins to help us find all the small cuts and prepare before starting(cutting vinyl circles). The outside person puts glue on the round vinyl piece (use enough) then fold it it half (makes a half circle) and hand it to the person inside the pool (wearing a diving mask or goggles helps). The inside pool person dives and unfolds right as they cover the cut. That’s it! Boom! You are done and the leak stops. Hope this helps you!

I used this patch kit yesterday. It works as it should. The instructions are clear. Follow the instructions carefully in every step and be mindful of the process. Trim patch corners, apply completely and sparingly to patch material, wait 24 hours for complete bond. I used this product in dry conditions.

I had a hole in my pool liner above the water line. I used a cheap clear patch to fix temporarily and decided to buy this product. I cut to size a portion of the blue vinyl patch provided and glued the back. It immediately started to curl up and wrinkle. I managed to stick it on, but the patch is all winkled and you can see not totally affixed to the pool vinyl wall. The product is not thick enough and reacts to the glue. Save your money.

We just had a new pool installed this summer. It was losing 1" per 24 hours which was very disappointing. Using some goggles and a leak detection kit, consisting of a syringe and some dye, I was able to patch 2 holes using this kit. I found that I had to use a lot of the adhesive to patch 2 holes, but it did with very well. It would be nice if it came with more adhesive.

applied it years ago and it is still holding up

It does the job, but it’s a little tricky to put in on under water. It’s not really perfect, but looks like it holds. See how long it will hold, before we really need a new liner.
